Episode 1.02

Pinőn Hallow Mall

Adel was on a power trip as she pushed the handicap button to the public doors of the mall and made an entrance with both her sons behind her. She stood even taller then she normally did over the consumers. “Chad, my darling boy isn’t this gorgeous?” She asked as she swung her off her hat, allowing her long brown hair to dance around in the air.

“Mother, it’s a mall. What’s so great about it?” he asked, unaware of the love and work his mother had put into the building.

Kip shook his head as he slowly followed his oh so loved brother. Kip had been the one to endure Adel’s hours and hours of endless ranting about how the mall had to be perfect. He understood the love and pride Adel had for it. Something Chad would never know, and something his wayward father would never understand either.

As Adel continued to rant and rave, Kip spotted Pam at the Java Jet. “Excuse me mother, and the ever so precious Chad. I have to…well I have to go get my daily does of Caffeine. Such a rotten addiction I know.”

Kip was off towards the Java Jet before Adel could even think of trying to stop him.

Maggie is behind the register talking on the phone. Her blond hair is pulled back into a tight ponytail and her whole body is tense. “What the hell do you mean I won’t get my order?” she barked into the phone. Any sense that she was the wholesome girl next door could be lost at this sight.

You could see the anger boiling up inside of her before she slammed the phone down.

Conner was standing in the entrance watching her, a smile on his face. “Manufacture or shipping company?” he asked her as he walked into the store.

Maggie jumped when she heard his voice and looked at him, “Conner! Don’t do that to me!” she reprimanded as she tossed a pair of baby socks at him.

He laughed and caught the socks, “a little too small for me don’t you think?”

“Ha Ha, very funny Conner. Don’t you have a video store to be running?” Maggie asked him as she put her pen down on the counter and came out in front of it to talk to him.

“Yeah well I wanted to come by and talk to you for a minute if that’s alright.” He said to her watching how her hair swayed east and west as she walked.

“Oh really, what’s going on McKay?”

Hallow Hotel

Brighton sealed the brown envelope closed by licking the paste to activate it. Then folding it shut, he pressed down hard. Taking the large permanent marker on the desk he used it to write Adel Davis on the front.

Bethany McKay quickly signed her name on the check in ticket for the motel. When handed her keys to her room, she grabbed her suitcase protectively and then left to her room.

The Java Jet

Kip walked over to the coffee shop stand and waited in line. Perfect, Pam’s on duty today. He thought to himself as he watched her. Her long brown hair swept up into a pony tail above the visor she had to wear. As soon as it was his turn he stepped up, “The usual today Pam.”

“One Large Mocha Java Jolt coming right up.” She said quickly writing the order down on her pad and passing it off to the girl that was making the drinks.

“Pam,” Kip started to say, “what are you doing tomorrow for dinner?”

Pam stopped what she was doing and looked up at Kip, surprised by his question. “Me? Um I have nothing set in stone for tomorrow evening.”

Kip smiled an extra charming one, “Then have dinner with me. How about I pick you up at seven.”

“That would be great.” She answered as he was handed his drink and he placed down the money.

“Well Maggie, I was wondering if you’d be interested in going out to see the new Legally Blonde movie with me tomorrow night.” He said to her, trying to keep calm even though he hadn’t been on a date since Bethany.

“Conner McKay, are you asking me out on a date?” Maggie asked, trying to hide the secret joy she was feeling.

“Well, it doesn’t have to be I mean it could be just friends.”

Sadness began to creep over Maggie’s face, “Oh, just friends—I really thought there for a minute you meant a real date.”

“I did, I just wasn’t sure you did.” Conner told her.

Maggie smiled sweetly, “I would love to go on a date with you.”

“Great, um I gotta get back before Eric burns down the store. I’ll talk to you later.” He said as he started backing out of the store but walked into one of the table displays of baby jumpers.

Pinőn Hallow Mall

Adel walked proudly up and down the pathways, with Chad in toe.

“Mother, why on earth am I here? I really don’t see a need for you to show me around the mall.” He told her, trying to show her he didn’t want any piece of this consumer world.

Adel stopped and looked at her oldest son, “Chad, I want you to start as manager. I’ve been running myself ragged with this and our other holdings as well as sitting on the board of the hospital with your father gone.”

Chad looked at her confused, “You make it sound like he’s dead. He’s only off in Europe.”

“Yes well, right now he might as well be dead. Please Chad, you came home. I would think that would mean you want to take part in the family business.” She said, trying to guilt him about leaving.

“What about Kip, why not have him manage the mall?” Chad asked.

“Simply because your brother has yet to learn self-control when it comes to the employees of this establishment.”

“Mother you must be kidding! You’re upset because Kip finds himself attracted to girls that just happen to work here?”

Adel turned to look at her son straight in the eyes, “The best match for either of my sons is very simple Chad. The woman I pick for you. Trust me on this son, you’ll find the woman of your dreams if you just let me choose her, same with Kip.”

“And mother, what if you have no idea what we want?” Chad asked.

“Then you’ll just have to learn to deal with my decision.” She said before storming off towards the escalators.

Hallow Hills

Parking his beat up car in front of the huge mansion the delivery boy got out and took with him an envelope marked for Adel Davis herself. No one in town terrified him the way Adel Davis had, the stories of her controlling behavior legendary. Mainly about the controlling approach she had with her sons.

Ringing the doorbell he waited for the large oak door to open, and it did—with Chad Davis opening it. “I have a package for Mrs. Davis. Could you sign here?” he asked showing him the clipboard.

“Didn’t you used to work at Saul’s Pizzeria?” Chad asked as he signed his name.

“Yeah, I still do. I’m just trying to get to college ya know. Thanks Mr. Davis have a good evening.”

Chad took the package and saw the handwriting, it was Brighton’s. “Crap!” He said to himself as he went into the closet and opened the package. Taking out the contents he found pictures of him and Brighton from the compound. “I’ll need to take care of this and fast.”

Hallow Hotel

He looked out the window and saw her red hair. He couldn’t believe she was in Pinőn Hallow. He got up and walked across the courtyard to the room she had just entered. Knocking on the door he waited before she opened up the door.

“Hey Sis!” he said as he looked at her with a smile.

Bethany looked at Brighton, “Go to hell, brother.” She said before slamming the door in his face.

“Gosh, that kind of hurt.” He said before returning to his room.

Later that evening the delivery boy parked his car in the lot of the motel. Taking out a pizza he walked towards Brighton’s room. As he knocked on the door he smelled smoke. “Oh crap!” he cried out loud when he saw smoke and flames in the window. He immediately ran do the alarm and pulled it.
