Episode 1.10

Pam’s Apartment

Morning sunlight was coming in through the blinds and washing over Pam as she slept on the couch. As the light hit her eyes she began to wake up. Feeling the soreness of her injured body as she sat up. She reached over to her side table and picked up the large prescription bottle of pills and took one out before swallowing it without water. She then ran her hands through her dark hair and pulled a pillow closer to her, and tried not to cry.

Hallow Hills—Sun Room

The large porch room was bright with the morning sun as Doug sat alone reading over the reports from Japan. This was the only thing he could do to keep his mind off the destruction he had witnessed the night before concerning his son Kip. Yet the image of his son drunk from the night before would not leave his mind. “What did I do, to destroy my son this way?” he asked to himself just before Kip walked into the room dressed in a pair of worn jeans, an old t-shirt and sunglasses to protect his eyes.

“Dad, when did you get back in town?” Kip asked, unknowingly revealing he didn’t remember a thing from the night before.

Doug looked up at his son, “Yesterday morning Kip. You enjoy yourself last night in your drunken state down at the pool house?”

Kip stopped short as he was unwrapping a muffin from the cart by the door, “You saw me last night?”

Doug put his papers down and looked at his son, “Yes Kip, I went to see Chad and found you in the pool house drunk like a fool. What got into you? Don’t you know that alcoholism runs on your mother’s side of the family?”

Kip tore the wrapper off the muffin and tossed it back on the cart, he then looked up at his father, “Just because Mother’s father was an alcoholic and died in a car accident with Aunt Charlene, doesn’t mean that’s what I am. I drank too much last night Dad. It was a reaction to finding out my girlfriend was raped when I left her alone in the park.”

Conner’s Apartment

Lysa was sitting at the counter eating her morning bowl of cereal, and watching her father make his own breakfast. “Daddy,” she asked softly before looking down at her bowl, “Why is Mommy back?”

Conner stopped what he was doing, “I honestly don’t know Lysa.” He told her just as Bethany came out of the master bedroom.

“Morning.” She said to them as she walked over and kissed the top of Lysa’s head and then tried to kiss Conner but he moved away. “So Conner, where were you last night?”

“I was at work, I had to get some stuff from the storage unit and it took longer to find the right boxes. Sorry I didn’t call. I take it you met Abby, Lysa’s baby sitter.”

“Yeah I did.” Bethany said as she sat down next to Lysa. “She seems really nice.”

“She’s great with Lysa.” Conner said defending his choice of baby sitters. “But what does it really matter to you Bethany, you came back to town for something and I want to know what that is.”

Airplane over the Midwest—First Class

Kevin Lane sat in the comfortable seat watching the clouds through the window. Just a week before his life was normal. He was living in an amazing world in Nashville, filled with plenty of work writing songs for the hottest country stars, he had the best friend in the world, and lots of fun at night at the bars—until the accident.

“Eddie, please just give me your keys. You’ve had a lot to drink. Just forget that you saw Amber in there with that guy. Driving drunk isn’t going to solve anything its just going to create more problems.” Kevin said as he and another man stood outside a bar.

Eddie placed the keys in Kevin’s hand, “You’re right, I know your right. I’ll just walk its only three blocks anyways.” He told his friend as he started to walk off.

It was when he was at the corner with a walk sign, and crossing the street that it all changed, as a car came careening down the street ignoring the red light it had and ran over Eddie.

Kevin shook his head, that memory was haunting him, and yesterday after Eddie’s funeral he decided he had to get away from Nashville, and the perfect place to do that would be to go to Pinõn Hallow and see his sister.

The Java Jet

“Listen, Misty, just tell Gerry I quit. Here’s my uniform. I have some other issues I need to clear up with the summer semester almost over and you know I’m still waiting to hear about the job in Hawaii.” Pam told the girl behind the counter. She knew that she just wasn’t ready to really face the world after what happened the other night.

“But Pam, what are you going to do about money until then? And what about Kip Davis?” She asked.

“I’ll be fine.” She said, “I’ve been putting some money aside. I have to go now.” Pam said before her friend could stop her and walked out of the mall.

Conner’s Apartment

“Conner, I came back for you and Lysa.” Bethany said defensively.

Conner shook his head, “You mean it had nothing to do with this?” he asked revealing the locket from his pocket, “It’s the Lady Agatha Locket right, if I recall correctly from the TV interview you were doing.” He said before tossing the locket down on the counter.

“Come on Lysa, lets get you over to Abby’s.” he said to his daughter before she jumped down from the stool and grabbed her father’s hand.

The Pool House

Chad looked around the mess created by himself and his brother the night before in their drunken rages. He sat down on his couch mentally kicking himself for letting his mother get to him the way she had. As he surveyed the damage he saw the print out he had on Bethany, and picked it up looking it over once again. He then smiled and grabbed his keys before leaving his pool house.

The Sunroom

Doug looked at his son, “I’m sorry Kip, I had no idea at all.”

Kip looked at his father, “I know you didn’t. No one knew Dad, it only happened the other night. And maybe if someone in this family gave a damn about me they would know what was going on in my life.” He said before taking his muffin and just throwing it on the ground before walking out.

Pinõn Peaks Hallway—Outside the girl’s apartments

Maggie opened her door and walked out, placing her sunglasses over her red, swollen eyes when she saw a handsome man walk down the hall and stop in front of Siobhan’s apartment. “She’s not there. She got called into the station earlier.”

Kevin looked over, “Oh thanks. I guess I can check into my hotel and then go see her. I’m Kevin Lane, Siobhan’s younger brother.”

“Hi, I’m Maggie. I heard the message well the end of it last night when Siobhan and I went in to her apartment.” Maggie said suddenly feeling nervous around one of her best friends brothers.

“Oh so you’re the famous Maggie, you run the children’s clothing store correct?” Kevin said as he smiled for the first time in a week.

“Yeah that would be me I guess. Speaking of which I need to get there myself. I’ll see you later Kevin, have a good day.”
