Episode 1.11

The Java Jet

Maggie had just finished ordering her afternoon coffee when she turned around and came face to face with Kevin yet again. She smiled, “Hello again Mr. Lane.”

“Well Maggie, its nice to see you again.” He said before the clerk came over. “Frozen Mocha Latte.” He ordered.

“Interesting choice.” She said as another clerk handed the exact same drink to her.

“I see you enjoy it as well.” He said as he moved aside to wait for his order.

Over by the tables Bethany was reading a biography of Princess Alexandria of Yorkshire. She had realized that if she did want to sell this locket then she was going to have to get a better handle on the legend of the locket.

Bethany, get that pretty nose of yours out of that book.” Said the smooth voice of Chad as he walked over to her table.

Chad, good to see you.” She said and realizing as the words escaped her mouth that she really meant it.

Chad pulled out a chair and sat across from her, “Why are you here all alone. Why isn’t your husband Conner with you?”

Bethany looked down at the table, “I was wrong about Conner. He fell in love with that blonde twit over by there.”

Chad turned around and caught a glimpse of Maggie as she was talking, or rather flirting with Kevin. “Who’s that with her?” he then asked Bethany.

Bethany looked over and her jaw dropped open with surprise, “That would be Kevin Lane, Detective Siobhan Lane’s little brother. I thought he was suppose to be in Nashville writing country songs.” She told him with a bitter disgust rising in her voice.

“He dump you years ago?” Chad asked, with a smirk.

Rolling her eyes, “Chad what do you want from me?” she asked.

His smirk turned into a seductive smile, “To get to know you better Bethany, without having to look it up on the Internet. Think we could find someplace more private for this?”

“What is it that you have in mind Chad?” Bethany asked as she closed her book.

Chad leaned forward and rested his face in his hands, “Whatever you want Bethany.”

Maggie nervously pushed her hair behind her ears and she and Kevin moved over to a table. “So Kevin, what brings you back to Pinõn Hallow?”

Kevin looked down at the wood table, “I needed to get out of Nashville, my best friend and writing partner was killed last week in a hit and run, by a drunk driver.”

The mood changed over the table as Maggie reached over and covered his hand with hers, “I’m sorry, that has got to be one of the hardest things in the world.”

Kevin looked up, “It is, and since then I haven’t been able to write. I figured if I got out of town for a while and let everything just sort of absorb in my body that in another month or so then go back to Nashville.”

Maggie smiled softly, “Wow, it sounds like you have things all planned out.”

Kevin took a sip of his drink, “Well I tend to be a control freak.”

Maggie’s eyebrows were raised as she finished her own sip of coffee, “I can see then how you and Siobhan are related.”

Kevin smiled and leaned forward a bit, “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?”

Maggie looked up, smiling nervously, “A good thing Kevin, a very good thing.”

Conner walked into the Java Jet with a list of coffee drinks to order for the Film Magic crew, as he looked down at the sheet again he shook his head. The whole staff would be bouncing off the walls within the hour. As he walked through the crowds he caught a glimpse across the café and saw Maggie flirting with a guy who’s face he couldn’t see, and by the other door he saw Bethany leaving with Chad Davis.

He stood there in shock, as he tried to figure out which coupling he should be more upset with. His estranged wife going off with a Chad or Maggie the woman who had stolen his heart flirting with another man.

The Pool House

Chad and Bethany walked into the now clean pool house and she looked around. “Interesting decorations Chad. Maybe you should actually let it look like you live here and not your mother.”

Chad sat down on the couch, “Well if I was planning on sticking around I might, but I plan to go back to traveling soon. But only if I find the right path to take and maybe the right partner to have on my side.”

Bethany sat down next to him, “Chad Davis, are you hitting on me?”

“I thought I did that the other night.” He said before leaning closer and kissing her softly, and slowly.

Hallow Hills—The Library

Adel sat behind the large oak desk as she went over some resumes and other papers. Picking up the top one she studied it before picking up the phone, “Hello, may I speak with Pam Mitchell?”

She started to tap her pencil on the table as the person on the other line spoke, “Pam, This is Adel Davis. I was just going over your resume and I’d like to offer you a position as my personal assistant.”

The Java Jet

Conner collected his order of coffees as he kept an eye on Maggie and her strange companion.

“McKay, what the hell are you staring at?” asked Siobhan as she walked into the café and towards her dear friend.

“Hey Siobhan, just looking out for Mags. She’s got some guy flirting with her.” He said not hiding his jealousy at all.

Siobhan looked over and tried to suppress a giggle, “Conner, that’s my brother Kevin.”

Conner looked at her, “What?” he asked trying to comprehend. “Well get him away from Maggie.”

“Conner, Maggie is a grown woman and Kevin is a grown man. Both are single, you’re married.” Siobhan reminded him.

“Yeah well my wife tends to only remember when it’s convenient for her. Like when Chad Davis isn’t sniffing around her.”

Siobhan looked at him confused, “Conner, stop focusing on Maggie and start focusing on Bethany and Lysa. Okay? I’ll see you later. I need to go see how Kev is doing.”

“Yeah I gotta get back to the store anyways. See ya later.” He said as he took his drink carriers and left the café.

Siobhan walked over to the table, “Hey Maggie, I see you’ve met my little brother Kevin.”

Kevin looked up at his sister, “Gees Siobhan, you make me sound ten.”

Maggie smiled as she watched the siblings interact, “I better get going, I’ve been gone longer then I told the girls I would be. But I’ll see you both later tonight, don’t forget eight o’clock Kevin.” She said as she picked up her coffee and left.

Siobhan took the now empty seat, “What’s going on between you and Maggie at eight?”

Kevin smiled, “Nothing, we’re just going to get dinner together that’s all.”

Siobhan nodded and took a deep breath, “Just be careful Kev, she just had her heart broken. Besides I don’t think either of you are in the right place in your lives for a relationship.”

“Thanks sis, I know you care and all but we can’t always control what we want to. You should know that as well as I should.” He said before taking a long sip of his drink.

“I’m just trying to look out for you.” She said before her pager went off. “I gotta get this.”

The Pool House

Bethany started to button her shirt back up when Chad walked up behind her, “You sure you want to work things out with that husband of yours?” he asked her as his arms enwrapped her, keeping her close.

“I have to do this for Lysa, otherwise I may lose any chance of knowing my daughter.” She said before turning around and having her mouth connect with Chad’s once again.

He pulled back, “Then I guess this is it for us.”

Bethany looked at him and smiled, “Only until I can get Conner to divorce me and allow me to have custody of Lysistrata.”

Chad sighed, “Bethany, do you realize how unlikely that is?”

She nodded, “I do, but I have to try. Even if I did walk out on them, I need to be there for my daughter.”

“I’m not going to wait forever Beth.” He said as he picked up his pants and started to put them on.

Bethany frowned, “You’ll wait for as long as it’s going to take, I know you will.”

“Don’t count on it.” He said before he walked out of the bedroom.

Bethany grabbed her purse and walked out of the bedroom and then out of the pool house trying not to cry.

Chad sat down on the couch and picked up his cell phone hitting a stored number. “This is Chad Davis, I need to make an appointment to see Dr. Harrison as soon as possible. Yes thanks.” He said as he scribbled down a date and time.

Outside Imagination Clothing and Film Magic

Maggie was walking back up to her store just as Conner was coming back out of Film Magic.

Mags!” he called out trying to get her attention.

She stopped and looked over towards him, “Yes Conner, what is it?”

He walked over to her, “I wanted to make sure you’re alright.”

She nodded, “Yeah, listen I got to get back to work. I gotta get everything done, before my date tonight.”

“Date?” he asked.

“Yeah I’m having dinner with Kevin Lane.” She told him as her fingers gently tapped on her half empty coffee cup.

Mags, this isn’t how things have to be. We don’t have to be apart.” He told her as he took her free hand in his.

She closed her eyes and leaned her head back before opening them and studying the ceiling of the mall, “Yeah they do Conner. Unless you and Bethany have signed divorce papers and you’re a true single man. I didn’t think so. Bye.” She said pulling her hand away from his before walking back into her store.
