Episode 1.13

St. Joseph Catholic Church

Kip walked into the sanctuary and looked around. It had been ages since he’d been in church, Adel believing her sons should find their own belief in God. The stained glass windows towering high above him, as though showing him that everything he had done were wrong.

He walked over to the confessional booth and stepped inside.

Hallow Hills

Doug threw open the door to his and Adel’s bedroom just as she was finishing dressing for the day.

“What the hell do you think your doing Douglas?” She asked as she tried to remain calm.

“I’m getting your damned attention is what I’m doing.” He said as he slammed the door shut. “We are going to discuss Kip, and we’re going to do it now. I found these in his room.”

He tossed the pills at her and she caught them, “So what?” she asked looking at them, “They look like sleeping pills. He obviously has trouble sleeping.”

Doug felt irritated, wondering if Adel could really be this oblivious, “They’re roofies Adel, you know the date rape drug.”

“Doug, Kip doesn’t need these. He’s got the girls drooling over him at the Country Club and the mall.” Adel rationalized.

Conner’s Apartment

Bethany sat on one end of the couch and Conner on the other. Lysa was off with her baby sitter and Siobhan found herself sitting on the coffee table, staring at the two. “Well do you two want to fix everything and get it cleared up, or spend the next fifty years fighting over who gets to raise Lysa?”

“I just want her out of my life, Lysa doesn’t need this woman around.” Conner said.

Bethany scoffed, “Oh please, I’m her mother.”

Siobhan sighed as she realized that trying to get these two to work things out was going to take a very, very long time. “How about we list the pros and cons alright?”

Maggie’s Apartment

Maggie had just finished tying her pink bikini top when the knocking began at her door. She reached over to the knob and opened it, and smiled when she saw Kevin. “Hey you, come on in.” She said opening the door wider for him. “I had a lot of fun last night, sorry though that I actually knew your favorite bar.”

Kevin smiled, “Its all right, cowgirl.” He said with a smile

“Cowgirl huh, I guess that makes you cowboy then.” She said as she pulled on a gray sweatshirt, “So cowboy, where are we going today that I had to have a bathing suit on for?”

“Well my dear,” he said as he wrapped his arms around her, “You’ll find out soon enough. Oh how do you feel about that lovely river of ours?”

Her eyes lit up as though she knew exactly what he was hinting at, “White water rafting?” she asked.

His shoulders sank, “How did you know?”

“It was that or a trip to the hot springs.” She said knowingly.

“You’re just too smart Maggie, I guess I’ll just have to find another way to surprise you.”

“I guess so.” She said to him.

St. Joseph’s

“Bless me father, for I have sinned.” Kip said as he crossed himself in the dark, closet like room, “Its been three years five months, and two weeks since my last confession.”

“What is it my child?” asked the priest.

Kip took a long and unsteady breath, “I killed a man.”

“Why did you do that?”

“Because he claimed to be having sex with my brother. He said my brother was his husband, and that he would tell our mother this.”

Hallow Hills

“Adel,” Doug started as he sank down onto the bed, “I’m worried about Kip. He has roofies, and yet his girlfriend was raped when he left her alone the other night. Doesn’t that seem kind of odd to you. That’s why he got drunk the other night.”

Adel stopped what she was doing and looked at her husband, “That’s what has been wrong with him?” She asked as she sat down next to him.

“That’s what he tells me is wrong. What if having his girlfriend raped, and having used these in the past is eating away at our son?”

“Kip really is in more trouble then I’ve noticed, isn’t he?” Adel asked.

Doug put his arm around his wife, “I think so Adel, I think we need to pay more attention to what he’s doing before he gets into more trouble.”

Conner’s apartment

“Siobhan, it was really nice of you to try and help, but I give up!” Conner declared as he stood up, “However I just want a divorce. I am not in love with Bethany anymore and she knows it.”

“Oh and like I’m in love with you? Please, I just want to be part of my daughters life.” Bethany said.

“Where does she fit in though with all the traveling you do?” Conner asked.

“He does have a point Bethany.” Siobhan pointed out.

Bethany sighed, “I’ll give you a divorce if you give me visitation when I’m in Pinõn Hallow.”

“I’ll think about it.” Conner said before walking into the kitchen.

The River

Maggie and Kevin walked out of the river water, their hair and bodies soaking wet. “So what did you think of that?” he asked her.

“That was the most exhilarating thing ever!” Maggie exclaimed.

“Well its not over yet.” He said as he wrapped a towel around her.

“What else could there be?” She asked as she held the towel around her body.

“Well, you’ll find out soon.” He told her as the wiped down his own body.

Maggie softly bit her lower lip, “Are you at least going to give me a hint?”

Kevin sighed, “How does dinner at Nebraska’s sound to you?”

She tilted her head to the side, “How did you know that’s my favorite restaurant?”

He let out a small laugh, “I just went with my favorite.”

St. Joseph’s

“Father, there’s something else.” Kip said before taking what could only be describes at the longest and most unsteady breath, “I raped a woman.”

He heard the priest mutter a prayer before he couldn’t take the guilt sweeping over his body any longer and then ran out of the church
