Episode 2.02

Kevin’s Apartment

Maggie sat on the couch, wearing a baby blue sweat suit as she watched a movie and filed her nails as she waited for Kevin to return home from work. Her mind was going back and fourth with thoughts as to why he hadn’t told her about this Jade girl.

The door opened and Kevin came in with his book bag from the office and set it down by the door. He looked at Maggie, studying her movements, “Cowgirl? What’s wrong?”

Maggie kept her eyes on her nails before she spoke, “Who the hell is Jade, and why was she surprised to find out you got married? Oh wait Jade said she’s your girlfriend.”

Kevin took in a deep breath as he walked over to the couch and behind Maggie, “Did she show up here?” he asked.

Maggie put the nail file down and looked up at him, “She sure did. Now I want an explanation as to why some girl didn’t realize you were no longer her boyfriend.”

Kevin moved from behind the couch and sat next to his wife, “Well, she’s the new artist at the label and Brock is insisting that I work with her.” Kevin ran his hands through his short hair before looking into her eyes, “She was in my office waiting for me this morning, and the first thing she did was kiss me. I pushed her away and told her I was married. I don’t know what she’s up to. I told her I was sorry for not breaking up with her, but we were never an official item.”

Maggie rubbed her nail with her thumb before looking up at him, “Then she’s got to be up to something since she came by about an hour ago and acted to be surprised to find out you have a wife.” She then stood up and turned off the television, “I’m not going to dwell on little miss Jade, and instead I believe we have some paint to go buy.”

“Great, you still set on the creamy color or did you change your mind?” he asked as he stood up.

“I’m still dead set on cream, you’ll just have to deal with that. Well unless something else tickles my fancy when we’re looking at the store.”

Methodist Church—Basement

Kyle went over the form, checking in the different boxes for each of the women he had met a little while earlier. A few had made an impression, but he just wasn’t sure. This was just too much pressure and here he had thought it would be the easier step into getting into life in Pinőn Hallow.

“Could I borrow your pencil when you’re done?” asked a soft feminine voice causing Kyle to look up.

His eyes connected with her blue ones and smiled, “Of course.” He said as he checked the last box and then handed the pencil to her. “I’m Kyle.”

She smiled, “I see that, I’m Trista.” She said pointing to her nametag.

“Nice to meet you.” He said still sitting there, watching her as she filled out the form. “You look really familiar, do you work at City Hall?”

She looked at him, “No, I work at Memorial Hospital, but you do look familiar as well.” She said as she sat down, “You weren’t in the ER lately, were you?”

Kyle shook his head, “Nope, basically work and home at Pinőn Peaks.”

Trista nodded, “That’s where I’ve seen you. I live on the first floor in one of the studios.”

“That makes sense, probably just passing by or something.” He said as she finished filling out her form. “You wanna go get some coffee or something?”

She smiled, “Yeah I would really like that.” She said as one of the teens came and took their forms from them.

They got up and Kyle looked at her, “This is gonna sound really stupid, but do you know what’s open this time of night?”

Trista smiled, “Yeah don’t worry, I know the perfect place with the best coffee.”

Abby sat on one of the tables with her legs dangling and swung her feet as she happily filled out her form. Ethan came over and sat next to her, “Hey Abs, tell me, you meet any guys that caught your eye tonight?” he asked, wondering if at all possible he had a chance to make their relationship more then friends.

She pulled the form closer to her and smiled, “One or two, what about you, any girls catch your attention?”

Ethan smiled, “Well one but not one of my speed dates.” He confessed before turning away from her.

“What’s that supposed to mean Rev? Have you been holding out on me?” she asked trying to get him to look at her.

He looked down towards the cement ground; “Well to be honest I’ve kinda liked this one girl since I arrived in Pinőn Hallow. I just haven’t had the courage to ask her out yet.”

Abby smiled, “Don’t be a chicken, just ask her out. It’s simple; I mean any girl in her right mind would say yes to a date with you. I mean hello, after the service on Sunday when you see her during the reception ask her to join you for a movie on Tuesday night or go out for coffee.”

Ethan nodded, “I’ll remember that.” He said feeling defeated for the time being. He was really thinking he was obvious about his crush on her but she wasn’t picking up the signals.

Conner looked at Siobhan, “Well that was interesting.” He said sarcastically.

Siobhan rolled her eyes, “McKay, things take time. You’ll find someone I know you will.”

Conner sighed as they began walking up the stairs, “I just wish this wasn’t so hard.” He stopped and looked down at her, “I just don’t find any of this to be fair, now I remember why I avoided dating after Bethany left. I never should’ve let myself give into my feelings for Maggie.”

“That’s not true Conner and you know it. If you hadn’t fallen for Maggie you wouldn’t be doing a damn thing with your life. You’d be working and spending time with Lysa, no life of your own. I won’t let you wallow like I did when Bethany left you.” Siobhan told him as she pushed past him on the stairs.

“Fine, I’ll try and have a life when I go to Denver this weekend.” He told her as he tried to catch up, “Who knows maybe going to this convention will kick start something.”

“You better hope so buddy boy or I’m going to start setting you up on blind dates every single night of the week.” She threatened as she opened the door and walked out of the Church.

JCN Records—Brock’s Office

The door opened and the lights turned on, as Brock walked through the door, undoing his tie and then tossing his jacket on the couch. He picked up the remote control and turned on the television and was just in time for the evening news. After only a few minutes he turned it off frustrated and went over to the bar and poured himself a scotch before sitting down in the seat behind his desk.

He took a long sip of the liquor and looked at the picture on his desk and sighed. He reached over and turned it down, not wanting to look at it anymore. He pounded his fists into the desk angrily before taking one last swig of his drinking, finishing it. He put the glass down and then picked up the frame staring at the image of him and her.

His fingers traced her image, as she looked happy and smiling. His breath was uneven and a tear fell down his cheek, “Joan.” He said in a raspy whisper.

Hallow Hills—Pool House

Chad opened the door and placed several suit cases right by the couch in the living room before rushing outside and then a few minutes later carrying Bethany into the house. “Welcome home.” He said as he continued to carry her.

Chad, you can put me down. Dr. Silversky said I could walk around a little bit. I think from the living room to the bedroom will be fine.” Bethany said as Chad set her down on the couch and rushed over to close the door.

“I’m not taking any chances with you. She also said you were still on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy, just because of your immune system.”

Rolling her eyes Bethany glared at her husband, “Chad I’m out of the hospital. Obviously I’m not as bad as I was. I’m awake, I’m alive, we’re married now, and as much as I love you, I really don’t plan on staying cooped up in the house all day long.”

“Yeah well too bad, this is where you’ll be. Besides you won’t be alone.” He said as he sat next to her, “I’ve got that job with the paper writing the column. I’ll be home with you. Besides where are you going to go? You don’t have a job, and unless you’ve found a seller for the locket, you’ve got no other projects.”

She sighed and frowned, “Fine, I guess you’re right. But what about seeing Lysa?”

Lysa, will be here this weekend since Conner’s going to that convention in Denver. He and I worked it all out.”

“What am I supposed to do though Chad? Watch Soap Opera’s all day long?” She asked as he picked up her feet and placed them on his lap.

“Don’t worry about that, I’m sure we can find you a hobby or two to keep your mind occupied during the day.”

Hallow Hills—Main House

Adel walked out of the bathroom in her terry cloth robe, while she rubbed lotion into her hands and saw Doug sitting on the lounge seat under the window reading The Secret Life of Cowboys. He looked up and smiled, putting the book down. “Do you feel better now?” he asked her.

She sighed as she sat down on the bed and took her slippers off, “I just wish Charlene would stay out of our lives.”

“I know you do Adel.” He said as he stood up and walked over to the bed sitting next to her. “I’ll think of something to get rid of her.”

Adel smiled as she looked up at her husband and smiled, “Thank you for everything.” She said.

“You never have to thank me. You’re my wife Adel, I love you and you love Me.” He said as he pushed her dark hair away from her face.

Adel leaned closer and kissed her husband softly, as her arms wrapped around his waist pulling him closer to her.

Jade’s Apartment

Pacing back and fourth across the hardwood floor Jade spoke to herself, trying to comprehend what had happened earlier in the day. How could Kevin have done this to her? She flopped down on the futon when the door opened and her roommate came in.

“Jade why are you so depressed?” asked Ophelia as she locked the door with the deadbolt and chain before taking a wad of cash out of her pocket and counting it.

Jade looked up at her perky, happy roommate, “Kevin Lane got married on Thanksgiving!” she declared as if the world has just ended.

Ophelia stopped what she was doing, “Kevin got married? Wait, did you only find out about it today?”

Jade nodded before going to the kitchen and taking out a plastic bag full of cookie dough, “Yeah to this blond named Maggie. She’s pregnant too, and honestly she seems like the sweetest thing in the world.” She said as she took a huge chunk of the dough off and began picking at it.

Ophelia shook her head, “I can’t believe that, he was crazy about you and he couldn’t call and let you know things were over?”

“Nope, I had to find out after I kissed him hello. Then I went over to his apartment and the wife was there. That’s how I know she’s a blond and sugary sweet.”

Ophelia took the milk from the fridge and poured a glass for Jade, “Well it’s his loss then, besides now you can focus on your music and find a new hottie. I saw the CEO of JNC tonight at the bar, why not seduce him?” she suggested.

Jade glared up at her roommate and shook her head, “I don’t think so. Brock Jensen is…well he’s an interesting character. Like today, he said watching Kevin and me would be enough drama that he wouldn’t have to watch All My Children. Besides, he’s always out with some different girl. Apparently he can’t keep them long.”

Kevin’s Apartment

The television was on, and Maggie and Kevin were finishing up their dinner of take-out Chinese as they talked about furniture arrangements. Kevin took the paper napkin and wiped his mouth before speaking again, “So since I don’t have to be at the office until the afternoon, I’ll move stuff around in the morning. Then on Saturday we can paint. Can you live with that?”

Maggie leaned back on the couch and looked at Kevin for a moment and then the television before speaking, “I guess that works. Just any suggestions on what I could do all day tomorrow?” she asked him.

Kevin thought for a moment, “Actually, no but I’m sure you’ll find something.”

Dan and Abby’s Apartment

Abby slammed the top of her laptop and stormed into the living room where her brother was just staring at the television evening news, rather then playing Grand Theft Auto. “Dan! We have got to tell Sam we knew about Pam being in Ginger Falls as well!”

Dan looked up at his sister, “Why would we do that? I have faith, give them a few more days and they’ll see each other.”

Abby sat down and looked at her brother, “Sam finally saw her, but she was with another guy.”

“What? Wait, what was going on between Pam and this other guy?” Dan asked his sister.

“They were kissing, on the beach at sunset.” She spitted out, “Plus he’s an older guy. We should’ve told them.”

Dan stood up and walked to the kitchen, “That could’ve been just one of those random things ya know. I mean Pam is crazy about Sam, but she also has no idea he’s in the same town. Damnit I’m an idiot!”

Abby threw a pillow at him, “Yeah you are.”

Trista’s Apartment

Trista poured Kyle another cup of coffee as they sat at the small table she had talking about everything from Politics, to Religion, and of course the latest book they were reading.

“So, what do you think of Pinőn Hallow so far?” she asked before taking a sip from her mug.

“Well.” He said as he looked up and found himself mesmerized by her blue eyes, “So far it seems to be less intense then Heaven Beach, but I have a feeling that’s about to change.”

“And what makes you think that?” she asked, as she leaned forward just a bit and her blond hair spilled over her shoulder.

Kyle smiled, “This.” He said before leaning over the table and kissing her softly.

Conner’s Apartment

Pacing back and fourth Conner’s mind was processing what Siobhan had told him earlier about Maggie being pregnant. His mind was replaying the one time they made love. Did they use protection? He couldn’t remember, but his gut was telling him they hadn’t.

He went over to the computer and logged onto the Internet and opened his e-mail program.

Subject: Major Question

Maggie, I know it’s been, well since we made love. I had an interesting conversation with Siobhan earlier today in the laundry room. She told me that you’re pregnant. Well that got me thinking, thinking about the afternoon we made love. I need to know Maggie, could I be the father of this baby, or do you already know that I am?

Conner

Brock’s Penthouse

The light turned on in the living room of his penthouse as he walked in. He flinched at the sight of the light and sighed, wondering how the hell he was going to deal with the hangover in the morning. He had started to think about her again, and how she had left him.

“Joan, you can’t just walk out!” Brock yelled as he entered his bedroom and saw her throwing her things into a large suitcase about the same size as her.

She looked at him shaking her hairbrush, “Oh I sure as hell can Brock Jensen! I am not going to sit around this penthouse while you go out with all these women each night just to keep up your appearance as the playboy of Nashville.” She then tossed the brush in the bag and walked into the bathroom.

“Joan, I thought you understood, nothing ever happens and most of them are new artists and we’re trying to get their face and names out there.” He said as he began to take some things out of her bag.

She came back out and glared at him, “I don’t want to be in a relationship with someone and have to hide it. I deserve more then that Brock, and you know it.” She then threw her shampoo and conditioner into the bag and all the things Brock had taken out. She looked up at him and then away, not wanting him to see the tears in her eyes, “I’m sorry Brock, it’s just that I can’t do this.” She removed the diamond ring from her left hand and placed it on the nightstand before zipping up the suitcase and leaving the penthouse.

Hallow Hills—Pool House

Chad walked back into the living room after having put Bethany into bed and looked around the room. He saw he had left the laptop by the kitchen and sat down at the counter and turned it on.

He pulled up a website and began doing searches on activities for Bethany to do while stuck in bed.

Hallow Hills—Main House

Doug pulled Adel’s body closer to his under the covering of sheets on their bed and kissed her neck, “I hate to tell you this.” He said softly, “but I have to go to Europe again.”

Adel sighed, “Doug, why can’t Jeff go?”

“Because my brother is a moron, that’s why.”

Adel turned to her husband, holding the bed sheet close to her body, “I don’t want you to leave again. I hate when you go to Europe and you know why.”

Doug sat up and looked at Adel, studying her before shaking his head, “I do not cheat on you while I’m in Europe. I don’t know where you got that blasted idea, but get it out of your head Adel. You are the only woman I have been with ever!”

“Fine! Whatever you say Douglas!” She said before flopping on the bed with her back to him.

Jade’s Apartment

Ophelia looked at her roommate, “Just because Brock hasn’t found the one to keep around yet, doesn’t mean he won’t. Or are you going to moon over Kevin for the next year?”

“I think, that the only reason Kevin married this Maggie girl is because he knocked her up. It’s the only logical explanation.” Jade said as she took a long sip from her beer. “I mean who would want sweet and nice, when they could have excitement? Trust me, Kevin likes excitement.”

“And if he really loves this girl?” Ophelia asked.

Jade smiled, “Then my advances won’t do anything to ruin his little relationship.”

“Jade are you serious? You’re going to try and break up Kevin and Maggie?”

“I don’t think it’ll be that hard at all.”
