Episode 2.06

Maggie’s Hospital Room

Maggie pulled the blankets up around her as she tried to focus on the rerun of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, as Kevin opened the door and came in.

“Maggie? May I come in?” he asked holding the door in case she ordered him out, she had so far refused to see him, and he found out from the doctors what had happened to their child.

Maggie looked over, “Sure.” Was all she could say as she kept her eyes on the television.

Kevin closed the door and walked slowly over to the bed, “Conner went back to Colorado. He said he’d let Siobhan know your doing better.”

“That’s nice.” She responded as she finally looked at him. She could see the sadness in his eyes, and the pain that not only the loss of the child had caused, but her distance as well. “I’m sorry I lost the baby.”

Kevin reached over and brushed her messy blond locks from her eyes, “Its not you’re fault cowgirl, not your fault at all.”

Maggie tried to smile, but it just didn’t happen so she sat there silent, trying not to cry more then she already had.

“Look at me Cowgirl.” Kevin tilted her face up to look in his eyes, “its going to be alright. We’ll heal from this, and we’ll continue to grow together and work together, and when we’re ready we could try again.”

Maggie pushed his hand away, “Kevin, I wanna go home to my Daddy, I need to be with him and Cassie—and I want to go alone.”

Kevin pulled back, “Alright, that’s understandable, I’m sure we can arrange that.” He paused for a moment, “Before you go though, will you at least talk to Dr. Cramer, you’re other doctors think it would be a good idea.”

A rage began to boil in Maggie’s eyes, “I will never talk to Dr. Allison Cramer again in my life. She can just stay the hell away from me.”

Kevin knew not to push it anymore, whatever Maggie’s reason was it had to be a good one, right? He stood up, “I’ll go call you’re father and the airline and get you all set up to go to Nashville tomorrow after you’re released. I’ll be back in an hour or so before visiting hours are over. I love you Maggie.” He reminded her as he left her room.

Memorial Hospital

Trista finished checking Siobhan’s chart before walking into the cubical. “You’ve hurt your back pretty badly, but you won’t need surgery.” She told the detective as she started to scribble a few things down on a prescription pad. “You’ll have to wear a corset for a few weeks, and be on pain killers, and most of all you can’t return to work for at least a month. Any additional strain to your back could make matters worst and the need for surgery.”

“Are you serious Trista? What am I going to do for a month?” Siobhan tried to sit up but failed, as a wave of pain ripped through her back.

“As you can tell, I am.” Trista sat down on the foot of the bed and looked at her friend, “As for what to do with all that time, use it to catch up on you’re reading, go to the movies, relax for once.”

Siobhan shook her head, “How’s the Chief?”

“Exact same as you, rest for a month and all.” Trista explained, “So please Siobhan, don’t worry about catching the bad guys for a while, they’ll still be there when you get back.”

Siobhan sighed, “Thanks Trista, when can I get out of here?”

Trista looked at the chart, “Actually the nurses station says that someone’s waiting to take you home so as soon as you sign this, you’re free to go.”

“Thanks.” Siobhan said as she signed her name, and a few minutes later as Trista was helping her with the corset Kyle came in with a wheel chair.

“Siobhan, you’re chariot awaits.” He said with a smile that drove Trista to passions of raw anger and desire for her former lover.

“Thanks Kyle, its really sweet of you.” Siobhan said as she found herself in the wheel chair, “Whose getting Becker?”

“I think that new female rookie, Desiree.” Kyle told her as he wheeled her down the hall.

Siobhan felt a pang of jealousy and disgust, “The skinny little blond who can barely move without breaking herself?”

Kyle sighed, “Yeah that one.” He pulled into the elevator and the doors closed.

“Okay, what’s with the tension between you and Trista?”

“She decided to sign up for a reality dating show, without even asking me, so we got in a huge fight and broke up.”

Siobhan shook her head, “You guys broke up? Do you have any idea what the chances are that Trista will even get picked to be on the show are?”

“Yeah but still, she wasn’t even going to run the idea by me. She was just going to do it.” He told her as the elevator door opened, they got outside, and he took her to the car.

Maggie’s Hospital Room

The door opened and Doctor Johnson came in with a folder of test results, “Afternoon Maggie, how are you feeling?”

Maggie looked over, “Terrible, are those the results from before my fall?”

He nodded as he pulled up a chair next to her bed, “Yes they are, are you sure you want to know this now?”

“Yes I’m sure.” She pushed herself up into a sitting position and took a long slow breath.

He nodded and opened the file, reading over it once more to make sure he gave her the correct information, “The DNA Sample you had of your husbands hair, it corresponds with the sample from your unborn child.”

Maggie simply nodded, “Thanks Doctor Johnson, please don’t tell anyone about this.”

“I can’t, Doctor-Patient confidentiality.” He looked up, locking his steel eyes with her blue ones for a short moment, “I also heard you threw Dr. Cramer out, why was that?”

Maggie wrapped her arms around herself, “Dr. Cramer is my mother who left my family almost eleven years ago.”

“Oh, well then I’ll make sure she isn’t sent down again, any additional stress to you could be detrimental in the long run to your health.”

Trista’s Office—Memorial Hospital

Chad held onto Bethany’s hand as Trista came into the office with the file, “Well Dr. Silversky what’s the prognosis?”

Trista sat in her desk chair across from them, “It doesn’t look good actually. Bethany’s immune system is still at risk, and it appears that after the child is born, it’ll deteriorate even quicker.” She looked down for a moment, “I’m very sorry, I didn’t want to have to say this to you, but the prognosis is that Bethany will only live a little while after the baby is born.”

“Is there anything we can do?” Chad asked, desperation flying through his words.

“We’re going to keep her on her treatments, and there is still a chance of a change, but I honestly don’t see that as very likely.”

“So you’re telling me I only have until June.” Bethany finally spoke.

“I’m sorry, but at this moment after these test results, yes I am.”

Williams House

Cassie sat in her room writing in her poetry journal and listening to Yellow Card when Larry began to bang on the door, “Cassie, I need to talk to you honey.”

She finished the line she was writing and opened the door, “Is everything okay Dad, is Maggie alright?”

“Maggie’s fine, well she’s better anyways. She’s going to come home and stay with us for a little while to rest.”

“Is Kevin coming to?” she asked wondering what her father thought of all of this.

Larry shook his head, not afraid to show his glee in not dealing with his son-in-law, “No, Kevin has to stay in Nashville and work on some girl’s debut album. The hack can never outdo My Sunset Girl, not in a million years.”

Cassie shook her head, “Dad, Kevin loves Maggie. I know you prefer Conner, heck I do to but it was her choice.”

“Why are you the voice of reason?” Larry smiled as he tilted Cassie’s head up to look up at him.

Cassie giggled, “Because I have a brilliant father and a smart older sister.”

The Java Jet

Conner slowly walked into the Java Jet, his body tired from his flight back from Nashville. He was barely paying any attention at all when he walked right into the slim strawberry blond who was walking out with an iced latte.

“Oh my goodness, I am so sorry. I am such a klutz.” she said when she saw some of her whipped cream on his shirt.

“No its my fault.” he walked over to the napkin dispenser and took a few out to wipe up the cream.

“I’m just so nervous, I just started my new job today and I was suppose to check in with the manager of this other store but he wasn’t in and I just feel like I’m screwing up.” she explained in a frazzled manner.

Conner just smiled, “I’m sure its not that bad, who were you suppose to meet with?”

She took a piece of paper out from the pocket of her flowing summer skirt, “Conner McKay, manager of Film Magic. Do you know him?”

Conner smiled, “Very well, I’m Conner McKay, you would be?”

“I’m Grace Waterside, the new manager of Imagination Clothing. Adel Davis, said you’ve been keeping track of the sales and such since the last manager just up and quit.”

“Well sort of, I’ve got all of that back in my office, but Maggie quit because her husband wanted to get back to Nashville.” he tried to hide the bitterness but he couldn’t.

“Not a fan I take it?”

“I can not tell a lie.” he smiled, “Let me grab some coffee and then we’ll just go and get those files for you Miss Waterside.”

“Missus actually, but I’m divorced.” She smiled.

“Well, welcome to the club.”

“You’re divorced?” she asked as they waited in line.

“Yeah, my ex left me like five years ago almost and showed back up last summer so then we got the divorce when I found out she was only lying about wanting me back and was really sleeping with someone else.” Conner smiled, “What about you?”

“Wow, I’m more of a text book case I guess. My ex decided on our third anniversary he was gay and left me and moved to Hawaii.” she said as though it was no big deal.

“Wow that’s kinda big.”

“I kinda always suspected but hey I get a nice little alimony check for the next year or so.”

“That must be nice.”

Hallow Hills—Main House

Adel sat at her desk going over the guest list for the June blossom ball she and Doug would be hosting to raise money for Memorial Hospital. The door was wide open and Doug came in still carrying his travel bag, “Hello Honey, how are you?” he tossed the bag on the leather couch and then went and kissed the top of her head.

“Hey, I’ve got the guest list for the Blossom Ball.” she looked up and smiled, “I think it will be an interesting event this year.”

Doug sat on the edge of the desk, “Good or bad interesting?”

“Good, the guest list is only the most distinguished people in Pinõn Hallow and we’ll have amazing security, nothing shall go wrong.”

Doug cupped her face in his hands, “Good, we need something happy in this town, especially after that bomb explosion at the college.”

Outside Maggie’s Room

Allie was about to knock on the door when she saw Kevin walking towards the room with Dr. Johnson, she ran behind the other corner and hide.

“So in the morning Maggie’s going to go back to see her father and sister. I think she’s right and it’ll be good for her.” Kevin explained.

Dr. Johnson nodded, “Yes I think it will be perfect for her. She needs her family around her. She mentioned her mother had left the family a while ago. It looks like that could be a reason why she feels the need to return home to a stable environment.”

“Yeah she’s only mentioned her once. Too bad her mother left.”

Allie leaned against the wall and took a long deep breath, starting to realize that she had made a huge mistake in leaving Larry, Maggie, and little Cassie. She clutched her hands into fists before walking to the elevator.

St. Peter Private School Playground—Nashville

The young boy dressed in his uniform played basketball with two friends as they ran up and down the court, when Allie parked her car and got out and watched the young boy for several moments. The young boy shot a basket and then he caught sight of Allie. “Mommy!” he cried out and ran to her, hugging her legs, “I thought you were coming later.”

“I got done with work earlier then expected and decided to come get you.” she told him and she hugged him back. “Go get your books and we’ll go home. We need to pack a few bags because we’re going on a trip.”

“Where are we going?” he asked looking up at her with his ever-inquisitive eyes.

She smiled, “Colorado, where they used to have cowboys.”

“Cool! But why?”

Allie pushed some stray blond hair from her face, “We need to go see some family. Are you ready to meet your sisters Gary?”
