Episode 2.21

Hallow Hotel—Room Six

“Luke, I’m fine I promise.” Maggie said as she slowly sat down on the bed and leaned back to lie down.

“Are you sure? Its not everyday that you get hit by a car.” Luke sat at the foot of the bed, his eyes filled with love.

Maggie sighed; she had to let him go she knew that it was only right. “Luke you should know something, something I should’ve made clear before.”

“What’s that baby doll?”

Maggie sat up a bit and took his hand in his, “Part of the reason Kevin and I broke up, why we’re getting the divorce is that I’m in love with another man, and its –I’m sorry but its not you Luke. There’s someone else who I gave my heart to a very long time ago.”

Luke sighed and pulled away from Maggie, “I need to go for a walk.”

“Luke, I’m sorry. I never should’ve leaded you on.” Maggie said about to get off the bed when Luke put his hand up in the air.

“I’ll be back in a little bit, I need to take this all in.” he opened the door and walked out of the motel room.

Hallow Hills

Jeff walked into the sunroom and saw Adel sitting in a chair looking over some papers, “Evening Adel.”

She looked up, “Jeff, so tell me what brings you back to Pinõn Hallow?”

Jeff sat down across from her and smiled, “I missed it, plus home base is here. I prefer to be here then LA.”

“Why didn’t you know Doug was in Paris?” Adel asked nervously.

“Because there’s really not much for him to do since last summer. Everything should be able to be handled by Kathryn.”

“Who’s Kathryn? Doug’s never mentioned her.”

“She’s the Executive manager of the Paris offices. Young, ambitious, kind of like you were.”

Adel sighed, “Great, a younger me.” She stood up and looked out the window towards the pool house. “I think Doug is cheating on me with someone in Paris.”

Jeff got up and stood behind her, “I know my brother, and he could never cheat on you Adel. He adores you more then you know.”

She turned to him and smiled, “Thank you Jeff. You’re a sweetheart when you’re not being a cad.”

Jeff nodded, “Thanks, that’s probably the nicest thing anyone’s said to me in a while.”

Pinõn Hallow Mall

Maggie walked through the food court with a bag from express and a large frozen coffee, she felt slightly better having picked up a few things, thankfully her car was only dinged and it was quickly fixed. She saw Conner coming from Film Magic and she quickly started to exit the food court.

Conner stood at the edge of the food court, his eyes glued on the profile of the woman walking quickly through, it had to be her, right. Maggie had to be here, she was back, and they would finally have a chance to be together.

Conner took off running towards her, “Maggie!” he called out, right before reaching her, placing his hand on her shoulder.

She turned to him, “I’m not Maggie.” The woman smiled, “but I could be, for a dreamboat like you.”

Conner backed away, “Sorry, I thought you were my sister.” He lied before leaving the food court.

Moonlight Bar

Gretchen Wilson’s Redneck Woman was blasting over the sound system as Conner walked in to the ever so familiar bar. He sat down and signaled the bartender for his usual. A moment later a bottle of Budweiser sat in front of him and he began to take, slow, long sips.

The man next to him set his bottle down and looked around, “You look about as happy as me. Let me guess a woman, right?”

Conner turned to the other man, “Yeah, I’m Conner.”

“Luke, trust me it can’t be as bad as coming to see you’re ex-girlfriend, getting back together and then her telling you she’s in love with someone else.”

Conner shook his head as he took a sip of his beer, “Try watching the love of your life marry someone else, then get a divorce and then I thought I saw her in the mall and it was someone else. Total embarrassment.”

Luke took a sip of his beer, “yeah well I ditched a great girl to come here and see Spunky, what a fool I was.”

“And yet we can’t live with out them.” Conner looked over at the dance floor, “To think before things got complicated she and I came here a few nights a week. She said it was the best way for me to free myself from the life of a single dad for a few hours. The times to forget about budgets and employees and a time to just have fun.”

Luke looked over, “You really love this girl don’t you? Why not find her and get her back.”

“She needs time to heal, it’s been a hard year for her. She has other things to work out before we can even think about being together.”

Hallow Hills—Pool House

Abby sat in the front seat of her car and pulled her hair back, twisted it and clipped it to her head. She opened the door and took out the shopping bags full of formula and diapers. She walked into the pool house and saw Chad running between both bassinets.

“You need some help?” She asked as she put the bags down on the couch.

“Yes, I so can not figure out what they want.” He said, the panic flashing on his face.

Abby went over to Del’s bassinet and picked him up, and rubbed his back. A moment later he burped, “That’s all it was, wasn’t it Del. Yeah, I bet you feel so much better now.”

Chad picked up Fallon and did the exact same thing Abby had to Del and she followed suit. “Why didn’t I think of this?”

Abby smiled, “Mr. Davis, you were probably well freaked out.” She put Del back in the bassinet, “Don’t worry, sometimes it takes a bit to realize why they’re crying.”

Chad held onto Fallon as he looked at his daughter, “Thank you so much Miss. Adams.” He saw the bags on the couch, “What did you buy?”

“Oh just some more formula and diapers we were running low and you don’t get a delivery for another few days.”

Hallow Hotel—Room Six

Maggie was packing up her clothes when Luke came in and sat on the bed, “Maggie, I’m going back to Heaven Beach tomorrow.”

She looked up, her eyes clouded with sadness, “Is this because of what I said earlier?”

“Partially, but also I do have a life there, I have a job, an amazing job. I can’t just give that up.” He stood up and cupped her face, “Besides, spunky you’re starting a new chapter of your life, I’m just a reprise of a former chapter. Here, but not really here. You’re one of my best friends and I will never forget you.”

“Luke, I never would’ve survived the past few weeks if it hadn’t been for you. Thank you so much for being here.” She covered his hand with hers.

“I wouldn’t have been any where else.” He kissed her forehead and began to pack his things.

Maggie watched him for a moment and realized he was right, tomorrow she would move into her new home and sooner or later she would look back on this past year of her life and find it to be so distant and different from where she would find herself in the future. Perhaps there would be someone who would truly win her heart, and Conner could be a shadow in the past.
