Episode 2.28

The Java Jet

Laura took her fresh cup of mocha cappuccino and sat down at a corner table with a manuscript. As she read the first few pages she sighed, realizing it was another dull, carbon copy romance novel from a new writer. She looked up and saw John about to walk out of the café. “John!” She called out.

John Adams turned at the sound of his name, and found his smile growing larger when he once again saw Laura Davis. He slowly walked over to her, not sure why she still had this affect on him over twenty years later. “What can I do for you Laura?”

Laura tossed the manuscript down on the table. “Tell me that you as a romance novelist think that it could be a good idea to perhaps start a mentoring program at Sensual Sun Press, between an accomplished author such as yourself and one of our new novices who have potential, just have yet to fully tap into the fullness of the genre.”

John picked up the manuscript, “I take it that you’ve been getting a lot of the same basic stuff?”

Laura nodded, “Yes, and the worst part is they have the potential to even outsell you and Virginia Covington, however they need direction.”

John pulled out the chair across from her and sat down, his hands hugging his coffee take out up, “I think we could arrange quite a few things. Perhaps we could set up a meeting in your office later this week to discuss this.”

Laura took out her palm pilot, “How does tomorrow afternoon work for you?”

John thought for a moment, “No major plans, what time?”

She looked back down and a moment later back up into his eyes, “How does two tomorrow afternoon work for you?”

“Perfect.” John took out a pen and grabbed a paper napkin and wrote down the time, “You’re office right?”

Laura smiled, “Yeah, my office.” she started to fill in the information, “Lydia won’t be upset we’re having a meeting will she?”

“No she has no reason to. You’re the head of my publishing company, its business. Nothing else. We ended things a very long time ago. We were two very different people then.” John stood up and looked down at her, “See you tomorrow Laura.”

Hallow Hills—Pool House

Abby sat on the couch, with her legs crossed under her as she held Fallon in her arms and fed her. The door opened and Adel came in with Isabella. “Abby Adams, thank goodness you are here.”

“Why is that Mrs. Davis?” Abby put the bottle down.

“I have a proposition for you.” Adel sat down with Isabella in her arms. “You’re wonderful with Del and Fallon, amazing really. Chad couldn’t have found anyone better. Thing is, well, I need someone to take care of Isabella. I was wondering if perhaps you could do doubly duty.”

Abby nodded, “Three babies? Mrs. Davis, I’m not sure that’s a lot to handle. Twins is a true handful.”

“It wouldn’t be for long, just the next couple of weeks while I clear my schedule so I can take a leave from work.” Adel explained as she rocked Isabella in her arms.

Abby sighed, “I’ll make you a deal, I’ll watch Isabella for the next two weeks while you get you’re work in order. Then I’m back to being Del and Fallon’s Nanny only. Then when all the kids are older we can discuss a more permanent arrangement.”

Pinõn Hallow Airport

“Flight 7629 from New York, has now arrived.” came over the PA system of the airline. A few moments later passengers de-boarded the plane. Kathryn Layden was among them. A determined look crossed her face as she walked through the airport and towards the baggage clime. As she picked up her luggage she dropped her purse. When she went to retrieve it the hands of a man held her purse.

She looked up at the man, and smiled. She knew exactly who he was, “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” he handed her back her purse.

“I’m Ryn Layden, new in town.” a mischievous smile crossed her face.

“Chad Davis.” he told her and smiled. “Welcome to Pinõ n Hallow. Here let me help you with that.” he took one of her larger bags for her.

“Thank you.” She chewed on her lower lip, “Are all the men in Pinõ n Hallow as sweet as you?”

Chad laughed, “I’m one of a kind. What brought you to town?”

Kathryn and Chad walked towards the doors, “Work, I just got transferred to the headquarters from Paris for DI.”

Chad nodded, “Ahh Davis Industries, what do you do for the company?”

“Office management, I’m here to look into a few things, some management techniques to possibly invoke in the Paris office.”

“Good Luck, my father lives in the office a lot of the time and so I think things are pretty much in order. I’m sure you know him, Doug Davis.”

Kathryn nodded, “I’ve met him a few times, I hope to work with him a bit on this trip.”

Chad looked around, “Do you need a ride?”

“I can get a cab, its really no problem.”

“I wouldn’t think of it. I’ll take you to your hotel. Where are you staying?”

“Shavano Inn.”

“Good, I was worried it would be Hallow Hotel.” Chad told her as he led her to his car.

“What’s wrong with the hotel?”

Chad turned to look at her, “Its really a fleabag motel.”

“Oh, well I’m glad I made the correct choice.”

Pinõn Hallow Mall

“Siobhan, I’ll see you in a few minutes. I’m picking up the pie right now.” Becker told her through the cell phone as he walked into the Saul’s Pizzeria.

Sally Payne was walking out of the Day Spa when she saw Becker and she stopped, and starred at him. “Joe?” she spoke in a whisper. She walked towards the Pizzeria, but it was too crowded for her to see inside. “I imagined seeing him. There is no way that was Joe.”

Sally started towards the doors leading outside, and turned back just as Becker was coming out. She looked at him for a moment, “I’m hoping to see him, but I can’t be seeing Joe.”

Becker saw Sally out of the corner of his eye, and he turned his head just enough to see she decided to leave. A sigh of relief escaped his lips as he walked to the parking lot and his Ford Explorer.

Trista’s Apartment

“We need to make a decision.” Kyle announced as he sat down on Trista’s futon couch with a bowl of popcorn.

“About what?”

“How to figure out who’s apartment we’re going to stay at each night.”

Trista picked up a handful of kernels and looked at him, “We could switch off.”

“True, we could do that.” Kyle nodded his head, “Or perhaps we could move in together.”

“What?” Trista ask, almost spilling the popcorn when she turned to look at him.

“Yeah, I think we should move in together. Maybe get a new place, rent a house maybe?”

Trista smiled, “You’re really ready for a long term commitment.”

“Yeah, I am.” he leaned over and kissed her.

“Well then lets see what we can find tomorrow.”

208 Shavano Court

Conner and Grace stood outside her bedroom, kissing. His hands roaming over her body. Grace shivered with want and need as his hands reached up her blouse.

Grace took his hand and led him into her bedroom. The blinds and curtains were drawn. The pale pink walls, were offset by the sage green bedding.

Conner and Grace stood at the edge of the bed, their lips connecting like magnets as they feverishly undressed the other. “Are you sure about this?” Conner asked her.

Grace nodded as they lay on the bed, Conner on top of Grace.
