Episode 3.02

Film Magic

“Maggie, I’m just picking up a couple of movies. I’ll be back in a little bit.” Cassie spoke into her cell phone as she wondered around the video store. “Yes I know to get something suitable for all ages. I’ll be back in a little bit, don’t worry I won’t miss dinner.” She closed the cell phone and slipped it into her purse.

“Hey, long time no see.” Came the ever so familiar voice of Eric Savoren, the assistant manager of Film Magic.

Cassie turned and looked up, and saw him. She almost gasped when she saw a very clean cut man standing in front of her. His short dark hair, brown eyes, and crisp smile. “Eric? Is that really you?”

He nodded, “Yeah, I kinda grew out of that whole hippie phase. Too bad Conner’s missing. I know he would’ve loved to see this.”

Cassie narrowed her eyes in confusion, “What do you mean Conner’s missing.”

“You didn’t know?” Eric crossed his arms over his chest, “Detective Lane is looking for him like crazy. Lysa is living with her grandparents, and Conner’s girlfriend Grace hasn’t seen him in weeks.”

Cassie looked down at her cell phone, wondering if she should call Maggie or not, “Maggie didn’t mention this, maybe she doesn’t know.”

Eric shrugged, “Maybe not.” He looked at her video’s, “Looks good. You find everything?”

Cassie nodded, “Yeah I did.”

Eric took the cases from her for a moment and then ran them over the magnetic strip, “Its on the house, just don’t tell.”

Cassie blushed, “Thanks Eric, I’ll see you when I bring this back.”

Eric nodded, “I hope so.”

The Java Jet

Laura Davis sipped her cappuccino as she went over a manuscript. She was startled out of her reading when a large thud hit the table. Looking up she saw Lydia Adams glaring at her. “Lydia, long time no see.” Laura looked back down at her manuscript before Lydia pulled it out of her hands.

“Listen to me, Laura stay the hell away from my husband.”

Lydia, John is an author with my company. As the head of the company we may run into each other. You’ll have to learn to deal with that. Besides you’re the one he married not me.”

Lydia smiled, “Yes and don’t forget it. You threw him away, and its twenty five years too late sweetie.”

“You’re right. Besides I’ve had three husbands, what would I want a fourth for?” Laura stood up, taking her manuscript and coffee, “So I’ll stay out of your way, if you stay out of mine.”

The Country Club

“So, Jeff any chance you’ll give me a clue as to who my biological mother is?” Ethan took the water glass to his lips and drilled his eyes into his father.

Jeff Davis sighed, “Ethan I’ve told you already I don’t know who she is. It could be any number of women.”

Ethan put his water glass on, “Jeff, something tells me that’s wrong. Please who is my mother?”

Jeff looked down at the table cloth, trying to focus his eyes on a nonexistent pattern. “Ethan, it was a very different time. Their were many women, I was young, rich, and hansom.” Jeff tried to explain, “So I don’t know who she is. Who knows maybe she’ll realize you’re looking for her and come out of the woodwork.”

“I highly doubt that.” Ethan told him as their food got set down on the table.

Doug’s Office DI

Kathryn opened Doug’s door and walked in. He was sitting behind his desk, typing away at the computer when she slammed the door behind her. He looked up and tried not to laugh at her, “Ryn, nice to see you.”

She took a few calculated steps towards his desk, “I want Quincy back.”

Doug looked up, “Who? I’m sorry I don’t know of anyone named Quincy.”

She sighed and tossed a file on the desk, “I guess I’ll call her Isabella. Where did you get that awful name?”

Its none of your business where my daughter got her name.” He rose and walked towards her. “Now get out of my office.”

Kathryn went to the door and turned back to him, “I’ll be apart of her life Doug, and you won’t be able to stop me.”

Conner stared out the window and finally he saw Maggie in her backyard. Her hair pulled back into a crisp clean ponytail. His heart was racing as he watched her move about her backyard. He saw a young boy, about eleven or so run out with a baseball glove and ball followed by an older man. He studied the man for a moment and remembered he was the guy she was at the movies with when they first saw each other again. A jealous rage grew inside of him and he started pounding on the window. Then he realized, maybe if he made enough noise or broke the window Maggie would know he was down here and save him.

Conner pounded against the glass, and after what felt like forever, and his hand was red and swollen he stopped and turned to see Grace standing at the stairs, holding Jasmine in her arms. “Isn’t Daddy silly. He thinks he can pretend that they can hear him out there. I guess we should let him in on the secret—its sound proof.”

Conner held the blanket firmly around him, “Grace, please let me out. I need to see Lysa.”

Grace’s eyes narrowed as she looked at him, “Conner you will not be allowed out until you forget all about Maggie and Lysa. Jasmine and I are your family now.”

Abby walked into the house, and looked around at the pictures of her family. They were joined by the awards and prizes her mother had earned selling Joni Lynn Cosmetics, and a few awards her father had recently taken out of hiding, once he informed them of his alter ego as a romance novelist. “Dad, are you home?” she called out as she went into the kitchen and took out a bottle of pop.

The backdoor opened and John Adams came in, taking off a pair of gardening gloves, “Hey sweetie. What brings you by?”

“Do I have to have a reason to come and see my father?” she snapped open the can and took a long sip.

John smiled, “What’s wrong honey?”

Abby sighed and sat down on the counter top, “Dad, I’m confused about something. I mean really its that Ethan is my best friend, my ex-boyfriend, and Chad is my boss but now that its been uncovered that Ethan is a Davis, I feel like I have to choose between the two of them.”

John nodded as he washed his hands at the sink, “When do these feelings of being torn happen, all the time or just when they’re both around.”

Abby chewed on her lower lip, “Well thing is they’re both very opinionated ya know. And well in all honesty they don’t get along at all. I mean, I don’t feel the need to choose until they start in on each other. Its never anything downright mean, its very underhanded, very clouded.”

John nodded, “Abby, I think sweetie that maybe you just need to remember what kind of relationships you have with these men. Chad is your boss, Ethan is your friend, former beau.”

Abby nodded, “I think Ethan wants me back, but he’s focused on finding his mother.”

“Honey, all I can tell you really is too follow your heart. If you don’t listen to it, you could end up regretting it the rest of your life.”

Cocking her head to the side she asked, “Is this from personal experience Dad?”

John sighed, “Lets just say I’ve seen it happen to people.”

Hallow Hills—Nursery

“Hey there little girl.” Adel said as she picked up Isabella and gave her a bottle, “How’s my little princess today?”

Isabella cooed.

Adel looked at the child and smiled, “I wasn’t sure what to think of you, you were a total surprise, but you’re a perfect angel, and I love you princess.” She kissed the top of her head and began to sing her to sleep.

Lysa typed away at the screen, blasting her yellow card CD as she logged onto the internet and entered a chatroom.

GreekChick: Hey All, what’s goin’ on for the evening?

IrishSon: Not much, how r u Greek?

GreekChick: Just the same ol’ thing. Working on English homework and ignoring the grandparents. U?

IrishSon: Just hanging out, the roommate went to the bar, so I think I might smoke some and then just chill.

Cassie walked into the backyard with the bag of movies and waved to her brother and Carsyn as she made her way towards her older sister, “Maggie we have to talk.”

“What’s going on Cassie?” she asked as she put plates on the picnic table.

Cassie took a deep breath and looked at her sister, “I just talked to Eric at Film Magic, he said Conner’s missing.”

Maggie dropped a plate onto the soft ground, thankfully it didn’t break, “What do you mean he’s missing?”

“I mean no one knows where he is. Eric said Siobhan is working on the case.” Cassie put the bag down on the table. “You’re really worried about him, aren’t you?”

“Of course I am, I love him.” Maggie snapped at her sister before storming into the house.

Cassie shook her head, “God, I hope you do whatever it is you have to, to get her and Conner together. Cause at the rate they’re going, I’ll be married before them.”

Ethan’s Office

“Clay, I’m glad I could get a hold of you. This is really important.” Ethan said as he sat down across from the private investigator.

“Let me guess, try and find out who your biological mother is?”

Ethan nodded, “Yes, Jeff is refusing to name anyone who it could possibly be. If my showing up could ruin her life, I won’t, but I do want to know who she is.”

Clay smiled, “Don’t worry Rev, we’ll find her. At least then you’ll know why Jeff kept her a secret. Though I’m pretty sure he knows exactly who she is.”

“I think he does too. What does that mean though?”
