Episode 3.03

Hallow Hills—Nursery

Lysa played with her baby sister Fallon as Abby stood in the doorway talking with her stepfather Chad Davis. She watched the two for a moment, and noticed their was some sort of tension, not the normal kind for employer and employee.

“Miss Adams, I’ll be back later tonight. You will be free as soon as my mother returns home.” Chad stuck his hands in his pockets, noticing golden flecks in Abby’s eyes.

Abby nodded, “Very well Mr. Davis.” She paused for a moment as though the thought of him out made her sick, “Have a pleasant evening.”

Chad nodded and left before Abby could say anything.

“Gosh you two are formal, what’s that about you?” Lysa asked from the sidelines.

Abby felt a shiver shoot through her, “What do you mean?”

“Mr. Davis, Miss. Adams? What’s up with that? Why not just Chad and Abby?”

“We have a strictly professional relationship, that’s what’s up with it.”

Lysa nodded, “Oh and that’s because you’ve dated his new found cousin, or because you think my step-father is extremely sexy.”

Abby almost choked on her breath when she heard such a statement come from the young girl, “Excuse me, Lysa McKay, you shouldn’t be saying anything like that. This has nothing to do with Ethan, or with Chad.”

Smiling Lysa shook her head, “Ya know, Chad looks more like that doll I gave you for Christmas then Ethan ever will.”

Abby narrowed her eyes, “What does that have to do with anything?”

“That’s what your husband is suppose to look like. At least that’s what I was thinking at the age of five.”

“Yes well, life doesn’t work that way. Besides Ethan and I still have our connection and it might just rekindle.”

“If you say so Abby, if you say so.”

PHPD

Becker handed Siobhan another cup of coffee as she looked over the evidence in Conner’s disappearance once again. “I’m missing something, something that should be super obvious.” She finally said.

“Then take a break, let’s get out of here, you need sleep. In the morning you can look at this again with fresh eyes and tell me what you see then. Maybe not looking all of this will help you.” He took the files from her and gave her a stern look, “I’m not kidding Lane, go home. I’ll even make you dinner.”

Siobhan smiled, “Lets just order pizza, I don’t want to think of my kitchen right now.”

Becker nodded, “Alright, let me go close up my office and I’ll be with you in a little bit.”

He left her out in the squad room as he went to close the blinds in his office, and he opened the top drawer and took out a clipping from the Star Ledger in New Jersey “Police Call Off Search for Local Detective.” He sighed before putting it back and then locks the drawer, hoping the past can stay hidden. “Sometimes a man needs to vanish.” His voice went out into the darkness he created before he grabbed his keys and met up with his girlfriend.

210 Shavano Court

Gary was playing in the side yard with his baseball when he threw it up high into the sky and watched it go over the short fence into the neighbors yard. He looked around to see if either of his older sisters were around and realized it was up to him to get the ball. As he jumped over the fence he saw the ball next to one of the basement windows. As he goes to get the ball he sees something pressed against the window.

Leaning closer Gary sees a man in the basement, wrapped in a blanket. He picks up the ball but moves closer to the window, “Hello?”

Conner smiles as he looks at the young boy and hold up a piece of paper that says, “Tell Maggie.” Written from a scrap he found in a box.

Gary nods and rushes back to find his sisters.

Carsyn pulled Maggie closer to him as they stood in the entry to her bedroom, “We can’t do this right now. My brother and sister are here.”

Carsyn nods, “Your right, now isn’t the right time.”

“Thank you.” Maggie smiles as Gary comes running up the stairs, out of breath. “What’s wrong Gary?”

“The neighbor has some guy locked in her basement.”

Maggie looks at Carsyn before looking back at her brother, “And how do you know this?”

“My ball went over the fence and I went to get it back, I saw him. He held up a paper that said, ‘tell Maggie’.”

Gary, what did this guy look like?”

“Well besides being wrapped in a blanket he had dark, almost black hair, and dark eyes. He looked scared.”

Maggie looked at Carsyn, “I need to go see something.”

Shavano Inn Room 8

Chad kissed Kathryn as he unbuttoned her jacket, and slipped his hands inside against her silk camisole.

Kathryn rested her hands down at the waist of his pants as she pulled him to the edge of the bed, before unzipping his pants, “I want you Chad, I don’t want to wait.”

Chad didn’t say anything, his mind and heart had shut down. He was letting his body do whatever it felt it needed as he pushed her onto the bed.

Kathryn lays asleep on the bed as Chad turns on the nightstand light to begin a search for his clothes. His heart and mind are kicking himself for this indiscretion.  His stomach feels sick, and for a moment he is sure he could vomit—but he doesn’t.

Crawling out of bed he finds a pile of this clothing and quickly begins to get dressed, silently praying that he doesn’t wake Ryan. As he exits the room he looks back one more time, wondering what sort of mistake he just made.

Methodist Church—Front Stairs

Ethan sat alone on the stairs, looking up at the evening stars twinkling and dancing. He held his cell phone in his hands, waiting for it to ring, but it stayed silent.

“Hey you, what’s going on?” Abby asked as she came up the steps and sat next to him.

Ethan smiled, “Just hoping to hear from Clay, obviously the search for my mother is taking longer then it did to find my father.”

Abby shook her head, “Whoever she is must want to stay hidden.”

“I know we’ll find her.” He said confidently as he turned to look at her, “Gosh your eyes are sparkling in the starlight.”

Abby blushed “Thanks Ethan, its very sweet of you.”

“I don’t know what I would do with out you in my life.” He reached up and touched her cheek.

Abby covered his hand with hers, “You’ll never have to wonder.”

Ethan smiled as his thumb massaged her jaw line. “You’re one of a kind Abs.”

Instead of speaking she leaned closer and kissed him, sending away the ploy of being just friends again.

Chad pulled onto Crestview Ave, and started down slowly past the church when he looked out his window and quickly hit the breaks as he saw Abby kissing Ethan. His heart was racing, his stomach tying into knots and his throat seemed to be cutting off. Why was this sight affecting him this way? Why did it matter if Abby kissed his cousin? He stared at the pair for another few moments before starting his car again and driving away.

212 Shavano Court

Maggie climbed over the small fence and went over to the basement window and looked in. She tapped on the glass a few times and saw nothing, no movement whatsoever. She sighed, for a minute she had thought Gary had stumbled upon Conner, it was a pipedream though. She stood up, brushed the dirt off her jeans and went back to her house.

Grace studied the knife in her hand, “Good boy Conner, Maggie has no idea you’re here. Just remember, if blondie finds out about you then I’ll slice and dice the little bitch.”
