Episode 3.07—Thanksgiving Day

Pinõn Hallow Airport

“Come on, I don’t want to miss dinner.” A young males voice called out down the runway from the plane as he dragged his suitcase behind him.

“But Darling, they aren’t expecting us today. I told your mother we’d let her know when we would be coming.” The woman called out to him as she tried to keep pace with him in her black heels.

He stopped and turned to his companion, flashing his playboy type smile, “But Phyllis, what’s the point of showing up early if we can’t surprise my family?”

She stood exhausted with her winter coat tossed over her arm, and her silk scarf coming loose, “Kip you are a handful.”

His smile grew wider, “I know.”

“Where’s Dan?” Lydia Adams asked as she opened the front door to her daughter Abby who held several pies in her hands.

“He’ll be coming back from Hawaii later today. He had to go with a social worker to bring Jasmine Waterside to her father.” Abby pushed her way in and kicked off her snow boots before going into the kitchen, “Happy Thanksgiving Daddy!”

John Adams came out from the living room, “Happy Thanksgiving to you to sweetie. Oh what kind of Pies did you bring?”

“I made pumpkin, pecan, and of course apple.” she told him as she arranged them on counter, “Dan will be back in time for dinner.” she looked towards her mother.

“Well that’s good, do you think he got to talk to Sam at least, maybe even see him?”

“I’m sure of it Mom.” Abby put her purse down on the counter and then went and put her coat away in the front hall, when she came back into the kitchen she saw her mother looking at the pictures of the twins, herself, and of Chad.

“You look like a happy little family.” Lydia studied the picture, “Almost as though it were true.”

Abby snatched the picture back, “Mother there is nothing going on between myself and Mr. Davis.”

“Abigail!” John shook his head, “Lydia, both of you need to stop. It’s the holiday, none of us are going to deal with matchmaking today. End of discussion. Now I’m going to go and watch the game. Carmen and Joseph are going to be here in a little bit as will David and Emmett.”

“Yes Dad, no more arguing.” Abby said as she stuffed the pictures back into her purse.

Ryn looked over the documents she had a private investigator find. She quickly highlighted the names and couldn’t believe her good luck. Doug Davis would be going down, and then she would have her daughter back. Nothing, no one could stop her now.

Hallow Hills

Chad, Jeff, and Laura were sitting on the couch in the living room watching the parade when Adel came in frazzled with a folder of paper work.

“Mom, its Thanksgiving, put the work down.” Chad got up and took the file from his mother.

“I can’t Chad, I have to find a new manager of the Java Jet. Maggie is going back to Imagination Clothing now that, that Waterside woman’s been arrested.”

Chad sighed, knowing he would regret this later on, “Why don’t I take over the Java Jet until you find someone more permanent.”

Adel’s eyes lit up, “Really, Chad that would be wonderful if you could do that.”

Chad nodded and Adel hugged her eldest son.

“Happy Family moments like this, makes me sorta sad I never had kids.” Laura said as she tried to look around Chad and Adel at the television.

Jeff rolled his eyes, “Yeah well the past can come and bit you in the ass.”

Laura turned to her brother and studied him for a moment, “Is Ethan still trying to find out who his mother is?”

“He knows, he just has to track her down. I talked him into waiting until after the holiday’s. Hopefully he’ll give up by then.”

“Mom! Dad! Chad!” Called out a familiar voice that sent Chad running into the foyer.

“Skipper!” Chad called out using the childhood nickname he’d given his younger brother before pulling him into his arms. “What are you doing here?”

“I came home for the holiday’s, I figured I’d surprise you all and come today.” He turned to Phyllis, “I brought Phyllis with me to.”

Chad pulled Kip to the side for a moment, “Um, Kip, don’t you think she’s a little too old for you?”

Kip rolled his eyes, “Chad, that’s Mom’s friend that I live with.”

“Phyllis its so good to see you again.” Adel said greeting her old friend.

Jeff stood in the doorway, his eyes glued to Phyllis as she answered Adel, “I’m wonderful, thrilled to be here. Though my husband Brad was upset to see me go.”

Kip rolled his eyes at the mention of Brad, before Adel hugged him. “Where’s Dad?”

“He’s up in Isabella’s nursery.”

“Thanks, I’m gonna go up and see him.” Kip started up the stairs, stopping midway to look down at his family.

Adel and Chad quickly exited, leaving Jeff and Phyllis in the foyer, “Its good to see you again Phyllis.”

“Jeffrey, its been ages. You look amazing.” She took a few steps towards him as she removed her silk scarf.

“Yes that it has. You’ll never believe what happened.” he told her as he took several slow almost calculated steps towards him.

She smiled, “And what was that Jeffrey?”

“I found out I have a son, his name is Ethan and he’s a Methodist minister.”

Phyllis’ eyes grew wide with shock, and something deeper brewing inside. “Really now, who’s the mother?”

Jeff looked at her for a moment before the front door opened and Ethan walked in. “Ethan, we were just talking about you.”

“You were?” He asked as he removed his gloves and jacket.

“Yes, in fact Ethan I’d like you to meet Phyllis—“

“Miller, I’m an old friend of Adel’s. Her youngest boy Kip is living with me in Florida.”

Ethan eyed Phyllis for a moment before looking at his father. Suddenly her had a feeling something huge was going to come out over dinner. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Ginger Falls Airport

“Sam it was so good to see you.” Dan said as he hugged his brother by the gate.

“It was good to see you to. It sucks that you couldn’t stay and visit for a few days.”

“I know but I have to get back to work, and Mom and Abby are feuding about her love life again. You know Dad can’t handle that on his own.”

Sam nodded, “I know, have a safe flight. Call me when you get their.”

“I will.” Dan told him as he adjusted his bag.

“Flight 1290 is now boarding.”

“Well that’s me.” Dan said as turned towards the gate, “Don’t worry Sam, one day things are going to be perfect for both of us. Trust me.”

Sam nodded and watched as he his brother boarded the plane.

Hallow Hills—Isabella’s Nursery

Kip walked in and saw his father holding the little girl, “Hey Dad.”

Doug looked up and a huge smile came over his face, “Kip, you’re home. What are you doing here?”

Kip walked over to the rocking chair, “Mom wanted me home for the holiday’s. I just decided to come home a little early.” he looked down at his sister, “She’s so beautiful.”

Doug nodded, “Yes she is. Ya know she reminds me a bit of you and Chad when you were babies. Both love the lullabies your mother sings, and so does this little princess.”

“Could I hold her?” Kip looked unsure of what his father would let him do.

“Of course you can.” Doug put the child in her brother’s arms, “There, oh she likes you.”

“Who takes care of her with you and Mom working?”

“A nanny, at first she had the same nanny as Del and Fallon, but Miss. Adams had two newborns to deal with, so you’re mother hired this lovely woman from town, who has child care in her home.” Doug told Kip as he looked out the window and saw Kathryn coming up the walk, with a file in her hands.

Hallow Hills—Outside

Chad saw Kathryn coming up the drive and went outside to stop her. “Ryn, what are you doing here?”

She stood up tall, her blond hair covering her ears from the cold, “I have some papers for your father.”

“Today isn’t the day, my brother just got to town and we’re going to have dinner soon.” he rubbed his ungloved hands over his sweater covered arms.

“I had no idea, however Doug needs to see this.” She pushed the file against him, “Chad, trust me. I need to talk with Doug about this.”

Chad didn’t like the feeling he was getting from his latest lover, now he realized why his thoughts were turning to the sweeter Abby Adams, rather then the ruthless Kathryn Layden. “Whatever it is, you can tell me.”

A wicked smile crossed her lips and she couldn’t help but realize how perfect this moment was, as the front door flew open and Doug came out. “Kathryn, what do you want? Its Thanksgiving.”

She looked at him, “What I always want Douglas. And this, will insure I get it.” She handed the file to Chad, “Its amazing reading. Enjoy.”

Chad and Doug watched her walk away, and when she was at the property gate Chad opened the file and was greeted with a disturbing document title. His eyes quickly scanned it and then he looked at Doug in disgust before storming inside.

“Chadwick!” Doug called out as he watched his son, before picking up the papers, and finding Chad and Kip’s birth certificates. “Oh Crap, this I can’t hide. Not any longer.”

Hallow Hills—Fallon and Del’s Nursery

Chad flew up the stairs of Hallow Hills, and into the nursery for Del and Fallon. He took out a suitcase from the closet and began packing their clothes. Kip came in the room, “Chad, what’s wrong?”

“I’m getting my children and we’re getting out of this—this house of lies.”

Kip grabbed his brother’s wrists, “Tell me what’s going on.”

Chad looked down at the ground as he shook his wrists free from his brother’s hold, “I know who our Father is.”

Kip blinked with disbelief, “Chad, you can’t know that. Besides it doesn’t matter. Doug Davis is our father.”

Chad laughed and shook his head, tears fighting inside of him. Before he could say anything he saw Doug at the doorway. “Hello Dad.”

“Let me explain Chad, please let me explain this.”

“Explain how you slept with you’re wife’s sister and had two children with her?” Chad asked, while Kip stood in the corner trying to understand all of this.

“Adel was always busy trying to prove how good of a wife she would be, but that left something’s out. Charlene provided that, and when we found out Adel couldn’t have children, I was thrilled to have both of you.”

Kip ran his hand through his hair, “You’re our biological father? Does Mom know?”

Doug shook his head, “No, she doesn’t. I want to keep this from her. It would kill her if she knew.”

“You’re right Doug, it would kill me to know.” Adel announced her presence and stepped into the room, tears were running down her face, “Just tell me one thing.”

“Anything Adel, anything.”

She took a long deep breath, “Are you Isabella’s father too?”

“Yes, I am.”

Chad’s eyes widened with realization as he looked at his father, “Kathryn, she’s Isabella’s biological mother, isn’t she.”

“Yes, and she has to be stopped before she takes that little girl away from us.”

Hallow Hills—Living Room

“Jeff, I can’t believe this. Ethan is, he can’t be.” Phyllis took a long sip from her wine glass, “He was never suppose to know.”

Jeff rubbed his temples, “Why didn’t you tell me when you found out.”

She sighed, “Because I didn’t want you to feel responsible for our week of passion. I didn’t want to hold you back from any chance at a future of happiness.”

Jeff took Phyllis’ hand, “I loved you, I wouldn’t have given up anything. I would’ve gained more then I have now.”

She looked away, “Oh Jeffrey, but then I never would’ve had Victoria and Nicholas. I couldn’t imagine my life with out them.”

“And I wouldn’t have restaurants all over the world.”

“Exactly darling, me never telling you about Ethan, helped you. Yes it hurt me. I cried for months, and yes I’ve wondered what became of him. Though I never expected he would become a minister.” She sighed, “Part of me wishes I had never given him up.”

“You’re Phyllis Slater?” Ethan asked as he closed his cell phone from the hallway door.

Phyllis and Jeff looked at each other, and Phyllis stood up, “Yes, Ethan I am. I’m your mother.”

Ethan looked at Jeff, and then at Phyllis, “Why?”

She looked down, “Jeff and I had an affair when I was married. My husband, convinced me giving you up, would give you a better life.”

“I have to get out of here.” he said and walked out of the house.

Ethan rang the doorbell, and shifted nervously from foot to foot. Abby opened the door, “Ethan what’s wrong?”

He ran his hand through his short blond hair, “I met my biological mother.”

Abby lit up, “That’s wonderful, isn’t it?”

“I’m the product of an affair, that Jeff had with a married woman.”

“Oh honey.” She wrapped her arms around him, “Come in out of the cold, theirs like a foot of snow out their.”

Ethan came in and kicked off his boots, “Thanks Abby, I don’t know what I would do with out you.”

Abby blushed as she felt his lips press against hers, even though for a moment she thought of what it would be like if it was Chad instead of Ethan.

Hallow Hills—Library

Adel took a deep breath as she sat behind the desk, “We are going to pretend that Kathryn Layden’s news did not effect us.” She shot a look of anger towards Doug, “It’s obvious that she did give up rights to Isabella, and nothing is going to break that document.” she looked at her sons, “I’ll take care of persuading Kathryn out of our lives, and to stay away forever.”

Chad looked over at Kip and then back at his mother, “And what if she spreads this all over the news?”

“We’ve never said Doug wasn’t your father. It’ll only back fire on her.” Adel tapped her fingers on the wood. “She’ll be at the opening of Home Cookin’ tomorrow night. After that she’ll be gone from town and our lives.”

“What are you going to do Mom?” Kip looked nervous.

“Talk to her, mother to mother. She’ll soon understand that Isabella is our daughter, not hers. Nothing is going to stand between my children and me.” She stood up, “Now lets go have dinner and act like a normal family.”

“Yeah like that’s going to happen, I mean with uncle Jeff’s bastard child, the reverend.”

“Oh come on Chad, its not like Ethan’s going to find out who his mother is today.” Kip opened the door and went into the living room, just as Ethan was storming out. He looked at Chad, “I guess I was wrong.”
