Episode 3.19

Hallow Hills

Dan and Siobhan drove up the drive way as he looked around, “Adams, why are we here?”

“This is supposed to be connected to the Kathryn Layden case right? Well she was murdered here so there has to be a clue.” Dan pulled to the side driveway towards the pool house.

As he parked the car he noticed movement inside and quietly and slowly got out of the car as he crawled to the window. As his eyes focused he saw a tall blond man standing over a bed, rubbing his hands together before stepping back revealing Abby laying on the bed.

Dan fell over.

Siobhan came up behind him and saw Abby, “Hey Kid, call for back up. This is going to be alright. You can do this.”

Dan nodded before going back to the car.

Clint’s Cabin

Lysa buttoned up her coat and slipped her shoes on just as Sean opened the door. “Lysa we have to leave. I just got called in to work.”

Lysa nodded and walked to the door.

Alex smiled as he watched her, “I’ll see you in homeroom.”

Lysa and Sean exited and Alex looked over at Clint who was sitting in the dark corner. “She is a good one. Are you still thinking of putting her and Claudia together?”

Clint stood up and went to the window; “Yeah, Claudia and Lysa are going to bring us in some very good cash. I have someone all set up for them.” He looked back at Alex, “You need to get them packed tomorrow afternoon.”

Alex’s jaw dropped, “Tomorrow, I’m sure I can get Claudia to do it, but not Lysa. Why not have Sean get her packed?”

Clint sat down on the bed, “Lysa is his niece. He’s not going to send her away. You have to do it.”

Alex rested his head in his hands, “I have an idea, and they’ve got me last period so I can figure something out by then.”

“Good boy Alex, you’re cut will be bigger this time.”

Pinõn Peaks Parking Lot

“Okay, go up to my apartment and change. Then go up the fire escape to your bedroom and go to sleep. I’ll talk to you tomorrow night.” Sean gave Lysa his key.

“Yeah good idea. What’s going on Sean?”

He leaned against the car, “Abby’s been kidnapped. Dan and Siobhan found her. Now we have to go save her from this guy.”

“Oh god, yeah go. I’ll talk to you tomorrow then.”

Sean got back in his car and drove off.

Williams House—Durango, CO

“Cassidy Williams, get down here now!” Larry called up the stairs as he held the pile of mail in his hands.

Cassie came down the stairs, “Hi Daddy, what’s going on?”

“Explain this!” He took out the thick envelope and waved it around.

Cassie took it, “Its from a college.”

“Open it.”

Cassie tore open the paper and took out the contents, “Oh my God.”

“What does it say?”

Cassie looked up at her father, happily, “I got early acceptance to Pinõn Hallow College.”

“I thought you were going to go to the Fort.”

“I decided not to Daddy. I want space. I want freedom.”

“You’re not going!”

“Larry.” Ariel stood in the doorway with her arms crossed over her chest, “Cassie’s almost eighteen years old. She’s just going to school in Pinõn Hallow; she’s still in the state. Its not like she’s going to Florida.”

“Ariel, that’s too far away.”

“Oh please.” Cassie tossed the papers on a nearby table, “Its not too far away to surprise Maggie at like seven in the morning. Trust me, you’ll still have you’re sweet little Cassie.”

“But I like having you here.” Larry looked at his wife and then his daughter, “I’m not going to win am I?”

“Nope. I’m going to Pinõn Hallow Daddy. I’m still going to do the pageants, so I’ll be on some major restrictions. I’ll keep my GPA up. The only thing that’s going to change is I’ll be in the same town as Maggie.”

Moonlight Bar

Kyle brought the Vodka Tonic to his lips and took a slow sip as he looked up at the game on the television, really having no idea what was going on. This is what his pattern was becoming. After work, go to the bar down the street, then back to the hotel.

“You alright?” Sally Payne sat down next to Kyle.

“Just dandy.” he took another sip as the bartender came back.

“What can I get for you?”

Cape Cod.” Sally told him before turning back to Kyle. “What’s your story?”

Kyle turned to her, resting his hand on the wooden top of the bar, still holding the drink, “I was about to propose to my girlfriend on New Years Eve, but when I got home that night I found her in bed with her ex-boyfriend.” He took another long sip, “Yours?”

Sally took a sip of her drink, “Came to town to start a new life, and found my husband living under a different name and sleeping with a new woman. He wants a divorce and she wants nothing to do with him.”

Kyle lifted up his drink, “Love sucks, I’m not doing it again. I have no concept of it.”

Sally laughed, “You have a concept, you just haven’t found the girl with the same one.”

Hallow Hills

Chad started down the back stairs to the kitchen when he saw red and blue lights flashing on the wall. He looked out the window and saw several police cars surrounding the Pool House. He rushed down the stairs and at the back door he grabbed his coat and ran outside.

“What the hell is going on here?” he called out when Sean McKay came up to him.

“We have a situation in the pool house sir, we need you to step back and let us handle this.”

“What situation? That’s my home that’s being remolded.”

“There’s a hostage situation going on.” Sean looked over towards Becker and called him over.

“Mr. Davis, please go back inside there is no need for you to be outside.” Becker heard his walkie talkie squawk, “Yeah, any identification on the perp?”

“He’s registered at the Hallow Hotel as Davis Brighton.”

“Oh shit!” Chad started to run towards the pool house when Becker and Sean pulled him back.

“Mr. Davis, we told you to go back inside.”

“I know who’s holding whomever hostage.”

“Who?” Becker crossed his arms as he stared at the younger man.

Brighton Simpson. He’s not dead, he’s trying to screw up my life.” Chad paused, “Who’s he holding?”

“Abigail Adams.”

Chad pushed Sean off of him, “I wish I had known he was this crazy. To kidnap Abby, what is this sick bastard going to do next.

“How can it be Brighton Simpson, he’s dead.” Becker took out his radio, “Update me.”

“Because he’s not dead, he’s here in town trying to blackmail me. He still thinks I’m his husband cause of that stupid cult. Now let me go get Abby out of there.”

“This is a police matter, stay back.” Sean told him, “I don’t want to see you go near that building.”

“Adams, its Becker. Chad Davis says it could be Brighton Simpson.” Becker’s voice came over Dan and Siobhan’s radios.

Dan looked at Siobhan, “The clues all involved the Brighton Simpson case, right?”

Siobhan nodded, “I’m not seeing the connection.”

Dan looked into the window again at his sister lying unconscious on the bed, “He was involved with Chad right? So was Kathryn. Chad’s the connection. Just like Abby.”

“So if Brighton’s not dead, who killed Kathryn?”

Dan looked back towards Chad, “I’m not sure yet. But I think we’ll know soon.”

Chad what the hell is going on?” Ethan came running up behind his cousin, “What’s with all the cops?”

Chad turned to his cousin, “Brighton Simpson’s alive and he kidnapped Abby.”

“What? Abby’s in there?”

“That’s what the police tell me.”

“Brighton Simpson, we know you’re in there. This is Chief Shamus Becker, come out with your hands up.” Becker yelled into the bullhorn as men surrounded the entrance.

Brighton looked out the window, “Glad to know you figured out it was me!” he yelled before taking the gun to the window and shooting through the glass, “Back up or little Abby gets shot.”

Becker looked over at Dan and motioned for him to relax, “What do you want Brighton?”

“I want my husband back and away from this whore! I’ve been watching them together with the children.”

Becker looked over to Sean, “Get Davis over here now!”

Sean ran back towards the house and saw Chad, “Come with me.”

Chad didn’t argue, “I told you this man is nuts.”

“Yeah well, you make him think you’re taking him back so we can get Abby out of there safely.”

Chad stopped and looked at Sean, “I would do anything I could to make sure that Abby is safe.”

Sean nodded, “Lets go get her out of there then.”

Abby opened her eyes and looked up seeing Brighton by the door. “What’s going on?”

“Shut up whore!” Brighton yelled as he glared at her.

“Brighton, its Chad. Come outside, I promise the police won’t shoot.”

Brighton looked out the window, and laughed, “Look who’s trying to talk me out. My husband wants me to come outside.”

Abby sat up, “Please just let me go. I’m not with Chad, I’m engaged to someone else. I swear.”

“Just shut up and stay where you are bitch.” Brighton pulled the blinds and lifted his gun up from his side.

Everyone stood outside silent, hearts racing as they heard the gunshot go off.
