Episode 3.20

Hallow Hills

Everyone stood frozen when they heard the gun go off.

Ethan watched the door. His heart racing, his body shaking as he worried about his fiancé.

Chad’s eyes were scanning the building, looking for a clue of what had happened inside.

Dan’s right hand was clutching his gun. Anger boiled in his body.

The front door began to open.

“Hold your fire!” Becker called out.

Abby ran out as Brighton hobbled out after her.

Abby found herself past the officers and running towards Chad and Ethan.

As she took her final strides, she made a choice. She felt safe in his arms.

Dan slapped a pair of handcuffs on Brighton as Siobhan read him his rights.

Ethan could feel the tears burning his eyes. “Thank God you’re okay baby.”

Abby held on tightly to Ethan. “Don’t let go Ethan.”

“I’ll never let you go.”

Chad stood off to the side, jealous ate away at him. His eyes were glued to his cousin and lover.

“Mr. Davis, we need you to come down town and talk to us about Mr. Simpson.” Sean McKay folded his arms over his chest.

“No problem officer McKay.” Chad walked passed Ethan and Abby, catching her gaze for a moment. All he could do was wonder why she was in Ethan’s arms and not his.

After placing Brighton in a car with several officers Dan looked over and saw his sister still in Ethan’s arms. “I’ll be back, I’m gonna go check on Abs.”

“No problem.” Siobhan told him as she went towards the pool house.

“Abby!” Dan called out as Ethan finally loosened his grip on her.

“Dan!” Abby pulled out from Ethan’s embrace and flew into her brother’s arms. “Thank you big bro.”

“No problem sis.” Dan hugged her, “Is Ethan going to take you back to the apartment?”

“Actually I’m gonna go back to his place tonight. I’ll feel better there.”

“Abs, are you sure? What about, you know who?”

Abby looked down at the snow, “This happened because of him. I’m going back to Ethan’s house tonight. Will you tell Daddy?”

Dan sighed, “Sure, just tell me this is what you want.”

“This is what I want Danny.”

“I hate when you call me that.”

“Yeah but you love me anyways.”

“Touché!” Dan smiled, “I’ll let Dad know. I’ll see you in the morning then.”

“Thanks bro.” Abby kissed his cheek and then went back to Ethan.

Dan turned around and looked at the pool house and saw the crime scene unit inside, he followed and put on his latex gloves as he entered, “Find anything guys?”

“Just this.” one of the officers told him, showing him the envelope.

Dan looked at it, and saw that PHPD was written on front of it. He gently opened the seal as Siobhan came in behind him. He took out the piece of paper inside. The same kind of paper the other notes had come to them on.

“What did you find?” Siobhan asked.

“A note. Just like the others.” Dan’s eyes glanced over it. “Oh God.”

“What is it?”

Dan handed Siobhan the note just as she finished putting on her gloves.

“You found that Chad Davis is the missing piece. Congrats you found Abby. As by now you know that it was Chad Davis in the pool house, with the ice pick. You’ve won the game of clue.” Siobhan read the letter and then looked at Dan. “Chad is coming down to the station. Let me handle this kid.”

Dan rolled his eyes, “What do you think the chances are its true?”

“I don’t know, what I do know is forensics will tell us.”

Ethan’s House

Abby walked into the kitchen wearing a pair of Ethan’s sweatpants and a t-shirt, “Thanks for the clothes.”

“No problem hon.” he handed her a mug of hot cocoa. “Feeling any better.”

“A little, the shower was really good.”

“Good.” Ethan kissed her forehead, “Do you just want to go to bed or watch television or a movie?”

Abby put her mug down on the table, “I just want you to hold me Ethan. To hold me and not let me go.”

Ethan wrapped his arms around her, “Don’t worry I won’t.”

“Good.” Abby smiled as she heard a knocking at the back door.

Ethan opened it and saw Sean on the other side, “Sorry to disturb you but we wanted to return these to Abby, and let her know Dan took her car back to their building. It was right where you told us it would be at Casper’s Market.”

“Thanks Sean.” Abby took her purse and gloves from her old friend.

“Has this Brighton Simpson guy said why he did this?” Ethan kept an arm around Abby.

Sean nodded, “This guy has it in his head that Abby and Chad are romantically involved. Considering both parties have denied any such relationship he’s probably going to get off with a insanity plea.”

Abby shuddered.

“Don’t worry BeBe, he won’t come near you again.” Sean nodded, “I better get back to the station. Siobhan and Dan think that while forensics was going through the pool house they found something in the Layden murder case.”

“Thanks Sean, and tell Dan thank you, for everything.”

“No problem BeBe. Call me and let me know how your doing in a few days.” Sean readjusted his hat and went to the door. “Have a goodnight.”

After Sean left Ethan looked down at his fiancé, “BeBe?”

“That’s what he called me when we dated in high school. He had to have a name for me that no one else would’ve ever thought of. He only calls me it when he’s worried about me.”

“Well you’re with me so your safe.”

“I know, thank you Ethan.” Abby wrapped her arms around his neck and stood on the tips of her toes as she leaned up to kiss him.

Dan and Abby’s Apartment

“Thanks Dan, I’m thrilled she’s safe. Not too thrilled she’s staying at Ethan’s but its Ethan.” John sighed as he spoke into the phone and glanced at the early evening news. “Yeah, I’ll let your mother know. Okay, by Son.”

John turned off the phone and sank into the couch, he turned the volume up on the television just as the front door opened, “Abigail? Daniel? Where are you two?” Lydia Adams voice echoed through the small apartment.

John turned off the television just as Lydia came in, seeing Abby’s face on the screen.

“Why is our daughter’s face on the news?”

John stood up, “Lyd, sit down. We need to talk.”

Lydia sat down in the armchair and John sat on the coffee table, holding her left hand in his. “Abby is okay. Earlier this afternoon she was kidnapped by a man named Brighton Simpson. He thought she and Chad Davis were involved and thought he could get to Chad through Abby. He took her to the pool house at Hallow Hills.”

“Oh No, is she alright? Is she in the hospital? I need to go to my daughter.”

Lyd, wait. Dan, our son saved her. He put what clues they had together and found her. She’s fine. She’s off at Ethan’s for the night. All is good.”

“Oh thank the Lord.” Lydia leaned back in the chair, “Where’s Dan?”

“At work, still putting some loose ends together I guess. He wouldn’t say.”

“Why didn’t anyone tell me?”

“We didn’t want to worry you. Dan barely told me anything until before it came on the news.” John released her hand when he realized he’d been holding it for a while.

Lydia stood up, “I guess I should get going.”

Lyd, don’t go. Talk to me.”

Lydia turned to her husband, “About what? How our children are grown and living lives we never dreamed of? How you’re still in love with Laura Davis?”

Lydia. Its so much more complicated then that.”

She sighed, “John, talk to me when you know, and I mean know what you want.”

Ethan’s House

Abby lay next to Ethan in bed, his arms wrapped around her as she starred up at the ceiling. “Ethan, how soon can we get married?”

Ethan sat up, “Why?”

“I want to get married by the end of the week. I don’t want to wait.”

“This isn’t about what happened tonight is it?”

Abby shook her head, “No, I just don’t think we should wait. We love each other so why wait on getting married?”

She knew it was about earlier, Abby couldn’t deny that in her heart Chad was the man she loves but obviously she couldn’t be safe with him. Ethan is the one she can be with.

Ethan smiled, “Alright, we’ll look at the schedule in the morning at the church and figure out a day.”

“Thank you Ethan, I love you.”

“I love you to Abby.”

PHPD

Siobhan took the forensics file into the small room where Chad Davis was waiting. “Sorry to keep you waiting Mr. Davis. Obviously it’s a bit insane here tonight.”

“No problem at all. I’m just here to help in whatever way I can.”

Siobhan nodded as she sat down, “I just had a little chat with Brighton. He said some very interesting things, and that reminded me of when I had you in here as a suspect for his murder.”

Chad shifted nervously, “What about it?”

“Well it seems he’s still obsessed with you and because of that he obviously took your children’s Nanny.”

Chad nodded, “Yes I wish Abby hadn’t been pulled into this.”

“We all do.” Siobhan opened the file, “You see though, this all ties into the murder of Kathryn Layden.”

“Yes her. Did Brighton murder her as well?”

“Actually he says you did.”

Chad’s eyes widened just a little bit, “That’s insane. I mean look at who told you that.”

“It makes sense though Chad, his obsession with you caused his so called death, and you and Kathryn were lovers.”

“Don’t remind me. Kathryn was nothing but a gold-digging whore, using me to get to my father.” venom filled his voice as he pounded on the table.

Siobhan nodded,, “Tell me Chad what were you doing home so early that night she was murdered.”

“I left the opening early. It was too damn hard watching Ethan and Abby together alright. I went home to be with my kids.”

“No stopping off at the pool house?”

“No.”

“You’re gloves are cashmere right?”

“Yes that they are. A gift from my mother.”

Siobhan took out a piece of paper, “From one particular breed of Pashmina, just like the fibers found on the ice pick that killed Kathryn Layden.”

“Detective, I used to live in the pool house, I used the ice pick many times.”

Dan came in, and sat across from Chad and next to Siobhan. “Yes Officer Adams.”

“The lab just called, said the blood type matches Mr. Davis. A DNA sample is needed for a match.”

Siobhan looked at Chad, “Tell me again what you did that night Mr. Davis.”

Chad folded his hands on the table, “I didn’t kill Kathryn Layden. Take a DNA sample if you want.”

“If you didn’t kill Kathryn, who did?” Siobhan asked.

“I have no idea.” Chad stood up, “If there’s nothing else I’ll be leaving. I’ll go by the ME’s office tomorrow for the DNA test.”

Chad left and Siobhan looked over at Dan, “What do you think the chances are he’s not the killer.”

“Slim. I really think its him. I hate that too because Abby loves him.”
