Episode 4.05

Williams Home—Cassie’s Bedroom

The shades were pulled down trying to block out all of the Colorado’s sun’s full effect. Cassie was curled up under the covers, she had been like that since Larry had brought her home several days earlier. So far she had refused to talk to anyone, even see anyone. Her friend Jillian had been over several times a day trying to get Cassie to respond, but nothing worked.

Even the boys as she referred to her guy friends Micah, Patrick, and Brad hadn’t been able to get her to respond. This left Ariel standing in Cassie’s doorway this morning, her black dress clinging to her bulging stomach as she looked at her step-daughter, “Cassie, please get up. Do you want to miss Jeff’s memorial service.

Cassie didn’t move, didn’t make a sound.

Larry came to the door, “Still nothing?”

Ariel nodded, “She’s so upset. I don’t think she’s going to get out of bed.”

Larry walked over to Cassie and put his hand on her back, “Sweetheart, please get up and get dressed.” He sighed as he sat on the bed, “I know this is really hard for you, but you need to say goodbye.”

Cassie rolled over slowly, her body was still sore from the accident. “Give me ten minutes.”

“We’ll be downstairs waiting sweetie.”

65 Princeton Drive

Fiona McKay had been staring out her back window ever since she had found out that her youngest son, Sean had been arrested, she had felt sick ever since she found out what he had done to her granddaughter Lysistrata.

“Fiona, darling?” Arthur walked into the living room, “What are you thinking about?”

She turned and looked at her husband, “I’ve been trying to figure out how this happened? What happened to make Sean like this, that he could do this to his own niece.

Arthur took Fiona’s hands in his, “I don’t know. But right now all I can say is think about the good times honey.” He lead her to the couch, “Think about the day we brought him home from the adoption agency. Do you remember how excited Mike and Conner were to have a new little brother?”

Fiona smiled, “They were happy, I just, I just can’t wrap my mind around any of this.”

“I know, and neither can I. But we’ll have answers before too long. Sean will go on trial for his crimes and the truth will come out.”

Fiona picked up a picture frame that highlighted three young boys smiling back at her. “I just never expected anything like this to happen to our family.”

“I know darling, but we’ll know the truth soon. We night not actually understand but we’ll know it.” Arthur took the frame from her and looked at the youngest face before placing it back on the table.

“Do you know if Conner has confronted him yet?”

“No, not yet. He’s focusing on Lysa right now.”

Fiona stood up, “I need to see him.”

“Alright, we’ll go over to Conner’s right now.”

Fiona put her hand up as she went to the door, “No, I’m going to see Sean.”

Trial Part 30

“You’re Honor, Members of the Jury, we’re here to present to you a murder case. A young woman, Kathryn Layden was killed on a cold November night in the pool house at Hallow Hills.” Kyle Roberts stood in front of the jury box, his eyes connecting with each member as he spoke. “This young woman was murdered with an ice pick through the heart by this man.” His hand pointed directly at Chad. “Over the next few weeks you’ll hear testimony regarding why he did this. The Defense will try to lead you to believe that Miss. Layden was just using him, that it was some ploy to destroy the happy Davis family. I am asking you right now, not to ignore the facts and to make sure that this woman’s killer is put in jail.”

Kyle went back to his seat and took a sip of his water as he watched Christian go to the jury box.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, The prosecution wants you to believe that my client would kill this young woman, why? There is no reason why he would. That’s what we’ll show you, that the prosecution has no case against Mr. Davis, he’s a loving father to two young children, he’s a loving son, and a successful columnist. He had no motive for this crime.”

Christian leaned against the box and smiled, “That’s what you’re here to do, Mr. Davis is not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and that’s the answer you need to come up with by the end of this ordeal.”

“Is the Prosecution ready to call there first witness?” The judge looked at Kyle.

Kyle stood up, “Yes you’re honor, I’d like to call Brighton Simpson to the stand.”

The doors opened and Brighton came out, walking to the stand.

The bailiff came over with the bible and swore him in.

“Mr. Simpson, you were at Hallow Hills the night of Miss Layden’s murder, correct?”

Brighton leaned into the microphone, “Yes.”

“What were you doing there Mr. Simpson?” Kyle stood in front of him, looking at Brighton, hoping he wouldn’t mess this up.

“I went to see Chad, I had to talk to him.”

“What happened when you arrived at the pool house?”

Brighton shifted in his seat, “I looked in the window and it looked like no one was home, at first. But then I saw a woman walking around. At first I thought it was my sister Bethany. But then she turned around and I knew it wasn’t.”

“What else did you see Mr. Simpson?”

“Then I saw Chad come in, and the woman said something to him and he picked up an ice pick and stabbed her.”

Kyle nodded, “Thank you Mr. Simpson.”

As Kyle went back to his seat, Christian came towards Brighton. “Mr. Simpson, what is your relationship to my client?”’

Brighton’s eyes looked towards Chad for a second, “He was married to my sister Bethany, before she passed away last summer.”

“Mr. Simpson, didn’t you just say a few minutes ago that when you looked into the pool house you thought it was your sister at first?”

Brighton let out an audible sigh, “Yes, I wasn’t aware that Bethany had died. I had been away for over a year. I faked my own death.”

“So, did you go to the pool house to see your sister?”

“No, I went to see Chad, to talk to him.”

“About what Mr. Simpson?”

Kyle sighed, his eye witness was about to be destroyed.

“I had a relationship with Chad while we were part of an organization.”

“What sort of organization?” Christian took a few steps away from Brighton as he looked towards the jury.

“People call it a cult, a gay cult.”

“And what again was your relationship with my client?”

Brighton cleared his throat, “He was my partner.”

“And when Chad left after he’d gotten the information he needed for his article he was writing for a national magazine you left and followed him correct?”

“Yes.”

“You were obsessed with him, correct?”

“Yes, but not how you mean it.”

“Explain for us, explain why you came back to Pinõn Hallow in the first place.” Christian leaned forward towards Brighton.

Kyle popped up from his seat, “Objection you’re honor, he’s badgering the witness.”

“Sustained. Please move on Mr. Quick.”

“I’m done you’re honor.”

Memorial Hospital

Abby chewed on her nails as she stood outside Dan’s room, watching from the window as the nurses checked his vitals. She hadn’t slept since her mother had called with news Dan had been shot, and then the news Sam was going into the hospital, she hadn’t told her parents. She figured if it was something truly bad, then his friends would call again and let them know.

“Hey, how’s he doing?” Ethan handed her a cup of coffee and led her over to the waiting area.

Abby sighed before taking a sip of her coffee, “He’s still not awake. I finally got my Mom and Dad to go home and get some rest.”

“You should get some too.” He suggested.

“No, I can’t leave Dan alone. He’s my big brother and I can’t live without him.” Tears developed as they had several times a day for the past few days. “Cause if he leaves then, it’s going to destroy Sam as well and then, I’ll be alone.”

“No you won’t.” Ethan took her hand in his, “I’m right here with you, and God is always with you.”

Abby stood up, taking a few steps away from her husband as she looked back at her brother, “The twins are a part of me, I couldn’t survive without them. If I were to loose one, I wouldn’t be able to survive.”

“You’re not loosing them, Dan’s just in a coma, his body went through a lot that night.” Ethan put his hands on her shoulders as he held her close to him.

“Yeah at the hands of my ex-boyfriend, a man I thought I knew and he turned out to be the biggest pervert.”

“None of that matters right now alright, you need to focus on Dan and him getting better.”

“You’re right, Dan is the only important person right now.”

PHPD Room 5

Sean McKay sat in the orange jump suit and his hands chained to the table as he waited for his visitor. He couldn’t believe he was actually here, as a prisoner. He had become an officer to get rid of criminals and yet he’d become one himself.

Fiona stepped into the room and looked at her son, “Hello Sean.”

“Mom, what are you doing here?”

“I had to see you, to see this for myself.” Fiona sat across from him. “How could you do this Sean, let alone to Lysa?”

Sean remained silent.

“Sean Francis McKay, give me an answer.”

“I don’t know.” Anger bounced off the walls, “I don’t have an answer for you.”

Fiona stood up, “Then I can’t look at you or talk to you anymore.” As she opened the door she looked back, “Just remember you took her innocence.”

Duncan’s Funeral Home

“Cassie’s here.” Micah announced to Patrick and Brad as he watched her come in with her family.

“Thank God, I was worried she wouldn’t show up.” Patrick adjusted his tie and realized just how uncomfortable he felt.

“I don’t think she’s gotten any sleep you guys.” Brad shifted side to side as he watched Cassie take a seat near the back.

“Understandable. I mean you guys, look at how badly we’re all taking this—she’s the survivor. She’s got to be asking herself why, and all kinds of other questions.” Patrick reached into his pocket and pulled out an envelope. “I think after the service we give her this.”

“Is that what I think it is?” Micah took the envelope from Patrick.

“Yeah it is.”

Brad sighed, “I’m not sure she can handle it though, I mean look at how she’s acting already.”

“She’ll be fine.” Patrick assured them, “This is exactly what she needs, by tonight she’ll be fine. Thanks to this.”

“She’s going to kill us when she finds out about this.” Brad crossed his arms over his chest and sat down. “I’m just not sure what she’ll do afterwards.”

Lets not worry about this now.” Micah looked around, “Let’s find seats.”

“I can’t believe they’re cremating him.” Jillian walked Cassie towards the door.

She sighed and leaned against the frame, “I can’t either. I guess we have to decide on a place where we can think of as Jeff’s special spot.”

“Why?” Jillian was obviously confused by this comment, “Oh here come the boys.”

“I’ll explain later.” Cassie sighed, “Hi guys.”

“How are you holding up Cas?”  Brad asked as he hugged her.

“I’ll be fine, I just haven’t let it all sink in yet, but I think this—this got it to be really real for me.”

“That’s good.” Patrick reached into the pocket of his jacket, “We were cleaning out Jeff’s locker and found this. It’s got your name on it so we figured you should have it.”

Cassie took the envelope from Patrick, “Thanks.”

“Cassie, we’re leaving now.” Ariel came up and broke up the gathering of friends.

“Bye guys, I’ll see you soon.” Cassie caught up with her step-mother and left with her family.

Memorial Hospital

Abby sat next to Dan’s bedside and held his hand. The room was filled with the sounds of the machines beeping.

“Come on, you need to wake up Dan you know that right?” She sighed as she squeezed his hand, “You can’t leave me yet big brother. I mean who’s going to tease me? Who’s going to help me deal with everything. I mean I know you know I’m pissed off at you right now cause of the arresting Chad thing. But I know you did it because it’s your job but you know the truth about my feelings.”

Abby wiped tears away from her eyes, “You are too young to leave us Dan. You have to wake up so you can have your own love life drama more then Ciel. You get that? You have to wake up, so you can fall in love and have a happy life.”

She looked to the monitors, nothing had changed yet, I’m not going to leave you alone until you wake up big brother.”
