Episode 4.09

Outside Courtroom 30

Ethan looked up when he saw his wife walk out from the courtroom. “Hey, how did it go?”

“Fine, I think Kyle was expecting me to have something bad to say about Chad. I never saw him do a thing wrong. Well except the time he and Kathryn almost had sex on the front lawn.”

He watched her eyes and saw the flicker of disgust, he really hopped it was for the children. “Oh you’re parents just called. They said, we need to get to the hospital.”

“Oh God, I hope its good news about Dan.” Abby said as she rushed to the hallway.

“I hope so to.” Ethan responded as he stayed a few steps behind and out of earshot, “Cause he’s probably the only one who will make you see what a bad guy Chad is.”

Imagination Clothing

Maggie walked out from the back office and found an envelope on the cash-wrap area with her name on it. “Jane, who left this?”

The sales associate smiled and shrugged, “I think you need to read it, to find out.”

She opened it and read the contents, We were once caged here.

“So what is it?”

Maggie re-read it several times, “A clue, I better go find out what’s up with this. And you were going to close anyways so I’ll see you later.”

As she took the escalator down to the main floor she looked at the note, if its what she thought she knew exactly where to go.

Entering the storage units brought chills to her, and yet she couldn’t help remembering when she and Conner were in the Imagination Clothing Unit together.

Her hunch had been right when she saw another note taped to the gate. Lights, sunset, romance you know where this is.

Caspian Vineyard

Elijah Bourbon walked through the plants, studying each one and finding them to be in better condition then he had anticipated. Perhaps this new vineyard he had acquired wouldn’t be so bad.

“Sir!” Nigel came running up behind him, “I went to the station as you requested.”

“Was she there?”

Nigel shook his head, “No, I had just missed her. But the Chief said he would send his best person over if we needed someone.”

Elijah sighed, “Well then, fate will guide us.”

“You’ve fallen for her, haven’t you sir?”

“Perhaps I have Nigel, but I won’t know until I see her once more.” Elijah began walking towards the stable.

Nigel stood there, “You’ll know before then, you won’t be able to get her out of your mind.”

Memorial Hospital—Outside Dan’s Room

Carsyn came out of the room with a huge smile, “So far everything looks good. We have to wait for a few other things but I think you’re son will be just fine.”

“Thank God.” Lydia held onto John’s hand as she leaned against his body.

John put his arm around his wife, “Thank you Dr. Raleigh, may we go back in?”

“Yes, of course.” Carsyn watched them make their way back to the door, “One thing, he’s asking about his sister and the Davis trial.”

John sighed, “Thanks, we’ll let him in on the details.”

Lydia pushed the door open and smiled at her son, “Hey, how are you feeling?”

“Like crap.” he pushed himself into a more upright position, “Where’s Abs?”

John made sure the door was closed before sitting down, “She had to be in court this morning.”

“Oh man, what did she say?”

Lydia looked to John and then back at Dan, “Um, well honey it was like Kyle Roberts expected her to crucify him and she didn’t.”

Dan ran a hand over his forehead and then down the side of his face, “I was afraid of that. She’s too blinded by her feelings to realize he’s a murderer.”

“Clam down Dan.” Lydia took his hands in hers, “You’ve been through hell. You’re sister did what she thinks is right. You did what you thought was right when you arrested him. You obviously had enough evidence to do that. But you have to remember that the jury has to hear both sides and decide whose being honest.”

Dan pulled his hands away from his mother, “I know that. I just wish Abby would let the fact that she’s in love with Chad, and look at the evidence.”

John and Lydia were both silent, “Excuse me, but what did you just say?” His father finally asked.

“Uh oh. Nothing, really I swear?” Dan sunk down in the bed, “You can’t believe anything I say right now, I just woke up from a coma?”

Lydia sighed, “It makes sense John.”

“I know it does, that’s what scares me.”

“Abby is going to kill me, you guys can’t let her know I told you that.”

“We won’t.” Lydia answered, “She’s a big girl now, she’s a woman who’s married to a minister. Obviously part of her knows how dangerous being with Chad is.”

“Exactly.” Dan nodded, “That’s why I hope to God, the jury sees the truth about him so she doesn’t throw her life away.”

Memorial Hospital—Cafeteria

“So you have no idea who sent the flowers?” Siobhan poured a few packets of splenda into her coffee.

“None at all, at first I was sure Carsyn had but he claims he didn’t and really all I can do is believe him.” She picked a piece of her muffin off and popped it in her mouth, “So how was your vacation?”

“Amazing.” Siobhan glowed as she remembered her time with Elijah, the adventures they’d had, the way his mouth tasted before and after a drink of wine, what it felt like to make love to him.

“Who is he?”

“What do you mean?” She was now blushing.

“Siobhan, you can’t kid me. I know that look so who is he?”

“Well actually all I know is his name is Elijah and his family is in the wine buisness.” She took a sip of her coffee, “I’ll probably never see the guy again anyways. It was that week of like pure bliss.”

“I’m jealous.”

“You and Kyle had a great time when you went on vacation last year.”

Trista’s expression changed, “Yeah, we did and then I screwed things up. He’s not willing to give me another chance.”

“Maybe, just not yet. But in the future I think you’ll be back together.”

“And besides you’re island lover, any prospects?”

Siobhan laughed, “Well let’s see I dumped Becker, and the last guy I slept with before my vacation was Dan.”

Trista dropped her muffin on the table, “When did that happen?”

“Months ago, it was one night and nothing else. No big deal.”

“Isn’t that a bit weird since you guys work together?”

“Was it weird when you and Carsyn were together?”

“Okay, point taken.” Trista picked her muffin up and pulled another piece off of it, “So if your mystery man were to arrive in town, would you hook up with him again?”

Siobhan chewed on the small plastic straw, “Oh yeah, I’d be lying if I said otherwise.”

Kyle’s Office

The sound of darts hitting the board bellowed throughout the district attorney’s office as Kyle tried to blow off the anger he felt from the humiliation from court. This case was sinking and sinking fast. At least now Dan Adams was awake and Siobhan was back from vacation. Hopefully one of them could sway the jury. Right now though he was sure that as soon as his side was done, Christian Quick would rest immediately.

Just as he threw the last dart someone knocked on the door. After a moment he responded, “Come on in.”

Sally stood in front of him, “I brought you some take out. I heard the report about the trial on the radio.”

“Thanks.” He sighed leaning back in his chair, “This is one case that was fragile as it was and now, unless Dan and Siobhan can sway the jury the state has just wasted everyone’s time.”

“You really think he’s going to get off?”

Kyle opened the containers, “Yeah I think so.”

“You know what, I’m going to leave you be.” She kissed his cheek, “Call me tomorrow alright? Get some rest, and please relax.”

“I’ll try, I promise.”

Sally stood by the open door, “If you act like your going to win, you will.”

After she left Kyle put his face in his hands, “But I’m not going to win.”

Hallow Hills—Living Room

“Christian, thank you so much.” Adel led him to the couch, “But do you really think Chad will be cleared?”

“Absolutely, Abby’s testimony today did a lot to help Chad out. The only witnesses that could sway the jury would be the arresting officers. But considering that Kyle Roberts was positive that she would have something to incriminate him shows that this case is weak.”

“Thank God. I don’t know what we would do if he ended up in prison.”

“You won’t have to worry about a thing.” Christian smiled and then it grew brighter when Laura walked in. “Laura.”

“Christian, it’s good to see you. Both of you look happy so the trial is going well for Chad?”

“Wonderfully.” Adel hopped up, “I need to go check on the children. Laura, Christian I’ll see you all later.”

Laura laughed as she watched her sister-in-law leave the room.

“What’s so funny?” Christian rose and looked into Laura’s eyes.

She shook her head, “Nothing really, but Adel obviously wanted you and I to be alone.”

“What’s so bad about that?”

“Well nothing, but it’s just obvious she’s playing match-maker.”

Christian put his hands on her shoulders, “Again I ask, what’s so bad about that?”

Laura’s smile faded a bit, “Chris, tell me please that you didn’t come to town partially because you thought something could happen between us, did you?”

He reached up and touched her cheek, “I never stopped loving you.”

Laura pulled away, “Oh Chris, you know why we didn’t work out in the first place.”

“Because of John Adams right?”

Laura nodded.

“He’s still with his wife, I checked.”

“I’ve been married since you.”

“And you’ve gotten divorced.”

“Just as you and I did!” She crossed her arms over her chest, “So why should you have a better chance at getting me back then the others?”

“Because I’ve waited, I knew Gerald and Peter wouldn’t work out for you.” Christian went over to the mantle and looked at the picture of Laura, “You left because you believe John Adams is the only man who can fulfill you’re heart. Yet you tried to forget him with me, Gerald and Peter.”

“And it didn’t work.” Laura was past being nice.

“Then why, when you’re nephew was in trouble did you call me?”

She was silent for a moment, “Because you’re the best defense attorney I know.”

He put the picture back and moved closer to her, his hands on her upper arms, “You knew I would do anything to protect your family, because you wanted them protected. I never got married again, I’ve spent all these years waiting for you to be free again.”

“What makes you so sure I am?”

“Laura, I know you. I know that as soon as you got back to town, getting John Adams into bed was all you wanted. But it didn’t happen, you got close but he loves his wife even if you’re his first love that doesn’t mean you’re his true love.”

“And what, you’re mine?”

“Maybe not, but you’re mine.” Christian looked into her eyes for a moment before he pulled her against him and kissed her.

Laura struggled for a moment to free herself from his embrace before giving into it. Her fingers tangled in his dark hair as her mouth mingled with his.

Memorial Hospital—Dan’s Room

Abby walked into the room, prepared to have another one sided conversation with her brother. At least this way he couldn’t yell at her for her testimony in court today. But as she opened the door, she knew something was different right away. Her parents weren’t there and the television was on, the lights off. Slowly she walked to the bed and touched Dan’s hand.

Dan grabbed Abby’s hand and held it tightly.

Ahh!” Abby jumped back as she screamed, “Daniel! Don’t do that to me. Wait, you’re awake.”

Dan nodded as he turned off the television, “Yeah this afternoon.”

She sat down next to him, “Why wasn’t I called?”

“You were in court.”

Abby cringed, “They told ya huh?”

“Yeah well, what was the other option you and Chad having an affair while your husband is clueless.”

“Dan, stop.”

“Sorry, anyways I’m fine. Dr. Raleigh is just keeping me here to make sure nothing comes up.”

“Good.”

“Have you heard from Sam?”

“Sort of, the night you were admitted he got admitted to the hospital in Hawaii, he was fine but it was just that weird twin thing ya’ll have going on.”

“That’s good, I think.”

“Yeah, I’m just glad both of you are fine.”

“So am I.”

“Do you know when you’re going to get back to work?”

Dan shook his head, “No, not yet. I haven’t even thought about it yet. I want to be healthy first.”

“Good plan big bro.”

“So any new gossip?”

She shook her head, “No, everyone’s too obsessed with the trial.”

“Damn trials. We need a good affair or something in this town.” He looked at her, “Forget I said that.”

“Yes sir.”

Pinõn Hallow Mall—Roof

Conner McKay waited for the door to open, when he saw Maggie standing there looking at the rooftop, “Hello?” She called out, unable to see anything special about this place.

A moment after he plugged in the strand of white lights and pressed play on the CD player, letting the familiar song sweep across the top of the building.

Maggie turned around slowly when she heard the ever so familiar cords of Right Here Waiting playing. “Conner, where are you?”

“Right Here Waiting for you.” He told her.

Maggie turned and saw Conner dressed in a black tuxedo, holding a white rose.

“Years ago I met this amazing woman, who became my best friend. Before I knew it, I was crazy for her. Then my ex came back and I lost you Mags. When I lost you, I lost part of myself and I don’t want to imagine my future without you as a part of it.” He dropped down to one knee and opened up the black velvet box, “Maggie Williams, will you marry me?”

Maggie watched him, her hand covering her mouth as she held back tears, finally she spoke, “Yes, you know the answer is yes!”

Conner took out the ring and slipped it on her finger before standing back on his feet again, and pulling Maggie to him.

She could feel his lips against hers again, and that moment of pure bliss as he held her in his arms.
