The sun was setting as Lysa McKay stood on the balcony of her hotel room. Her friends had already gone down to the bar in search of one last fling. She wanted to wait, see if he showed up. She wasn’t sure he would, but he could surprise her. He had promised, but really can you believe a promise from a guy you meet on the beach?

Someone began to knock at the door, and when she answered she was greeted by a bellboy. “The gentleman from room 232 requested these be delivered to Lisa.”

“That’s me.” Lysa had lied, slightly about her name to him. What was the harm, she would never see him again, right? Besides she was on vacation, a chance to be someone different for seven nights and eight days.

He handed her the bouquet of flowers, and just as she was about to close the door she looked up, he was standing in front of her wearing khaki pants and a nice crisp white button down shirt. “I wanted to see the look on your face when you smelled them when you thought no one was looking.”

She smiled, “That’s very sweet. Come on in.” Putting the flowers in the sink and running some water till it filled she turned back to him. “I wasn’t sure you would come.”

“Part of me was afraid to, but this is our last night in paradise. Tomorrow we both return to the real world.” He brushed some hair from her eyes, “Besides, I don’t think I could stay away if I wanted to.”

Lysa smiled, “So what did you have in mind for this evening?”

Taking her hand he twirled her around, “Well I thought we could have a moonlit picnic on the beach, and then dancing at the club I know you’ve been wanting to check out since you got here.”

Lysa felt her body fall against his, “That sounds wonderful.” Never had any man made her heart race like this. This was real. This was grown up. And all it took was a very backwards succession of involvements to get here.

“Then lets get going.” Just after she closed the door and they stood in the hall. He stopped, searching her eyes, wondering how he had gotten so lucky to have met this woman, and how he could spend the rest of his life without her.

She smiled a nervous smile before she felt his lips press against hers. She felt sparks from her toes to the end of her hair. Whenever he kissed her, she felt like she was in Pretty in Pink, it was a kiss she could feel all over because he had strong lips.

As they sat on the beach, they laid on a blanket. The stars of the sky twinkling and dancing as if they were fairies doing a ballet just for them. He couldn’t believe he’d gotten so lucky to meet a girl like this. He was just so sad this would have to end. He’s return home tomorrow and begin the perpetrations to move closer to his family again. So for now he was going to cherish this evening. He was going to enjoy every single moment he could with Lisa.

“You’re drifting off, where are you going?”

He sighed, “Thinking about the real world and all the things I have to do before I really start my career.”

Lysa sighed, “Let’s not think about the real world, trust me I don’t want to.” She stretched out on the sand and he laid next to her.

“Then what should we think about?” He took hold of her hand, rubbing her palm with his thumb.

She looked over at him, “Tell me something you could only tell someone you’ll never see again.”

He brushed the curls away from her eyes, watching the way the moonlight reflected in her eyes. “If I could only live one moment over and over again when I die, it would be this. Laying here on the beach, under the moonlight and stars here in Cancun, with you.”

She smiled and kissed him briefly.

“Now you.”

She paused watching the way his eyes studied her, “I think that tonight will be the night that is kept at this complete romantic secret in my heart, for years and years to come. The sort of secret that gets written down, sealed in an envelope and discovered years later by grandchildren.”

He took a deep breath, he had been thinking that maybe this could continue, but really could it?

“Even in our world with the technology, myspace, cell phones and everything else I don’t want to loose this, here, right now.” Lysa announced.

“I completely agree.”

She leaned forward and kissed him. “If we’re meant to see each other again, we will. Be it in three months or twenty five years.”

“Who knows.” He announced, “Maybe every vacation we ever go on from now on, we’ll see each other.”

“Maybe so.” It was a dangerous idea, but who knew. In four years she could be sitting at a café in Paris, and across the street see him.

“But for now, lets live in the moment. We have the rest of the night, just us.”

“Exactly.” She stood up, “But I’m not in the mood for dancing.”

He rose, looking into her eyes, “What are you in the mood for?”

“I just want to fall asleep next to you.” She wrapped her arms around his neck, “To just have this one night, next to you for all the rest of our lives.”

He cupped her face in his hands, kissing her.

The early morning sunlight was coming into the room. Lysa looked over at her companion. She went to the desk and used a piece of hotel stationary writing him a quick goodbye note before slipping out of the room, and probably out of his life forever.

He heard the door shut and opened his eyes, finding the bed next to him empty. He reached over and touched the pillow; it was still warm from where her head had been. Then sitting just below the pillow was a note.

See you next Vacation, L.

He sighed, hoping he would some day see her again. For now he had to focus on getting out and catching his plane.

He took out his suitcase and started to toss his clothes in it, glad he’d taken a case larger then he needed so he wouldn’t worry about folding his stuff. He pulled his wallet out and put her note inside before one of his credit cards fell out. He picked it up and noticed that it would expire soon, “Oh time to order a new card, I have got to remember to make sure they just put Kip, instead of Kipland.” He announced to himself aloud.

But for now, all he could do was think about the woman who had stolen his heart and he would probably never see again.
